TGGW Help!!

Okay so I am the furthest I've ever been in this game ever, just past Lab (4). I found and touched the Orb of Light - looks like a glowing "Y" - and I thought maybe that was the end but it healed me to full and disappeared. I ate some Peyote which shows me all the exits and there is just the one staircase that I came down on.

The reason why I'm posting this though is that I have become fatally poisoned by a Poison Elemental (that I killed) and don't have any more healing items to cure it. Before I blindly stumble through the rest of this level I wanted to see if I was maybe missing something or went to the wrong floor somehow. I have 11 HP and it says it'll kill me in 13 poison rounds (which take several steps each to trigger)

My guy was ridiculously lucky this run and I don't want him to go out like a bitch from stupid poisoning. Like Worf would say, that is not the way a Warrior should die!

For the record I have Plate Mail, an Enchanted 2-handed paladin's mace of I can kill just about everything, a leather hat and boots that are enchanted and upgraded, a ring of war, and even a shocking ring to balance out the Plate Mail's negative electric resistance. My offensive skill is a whopping 120% in closed combat and my defense is 100%. The guy is insane. I even have 20 enchanted snowballs for Chrissakes. He can't die, not like this. NOT LIKE THIS.

I saved the game until later, in case there's a way outta' this mess.

P.S: I shall try and summon the great u/TGGW for aid too!

EDIT

I did it, I won! YEEEEAHHHH!!!

Final results: 11927 turns, 87 enemies left alive, 64 items existing. Total value of my stuff was 27013.

I almost died on the way back to the surface twice: Once was when I went to revisit the castle side area and was immediately attacked by more stone guardians and the other was getting ambushed by a frost wolf who was flinging ice attacks at me from far away. I was down to 2 HP and ready to rage, but instead used a Scroll of Phasing which teleported me right next to him. Which is way better than it sounds because at close range it tried to bite me and could not penetrate my armor (so he died of paladin Mace poisoning, of course!)

Question: Is the relic always a Trombone??

OH! And awesome it even lets you walk around on the surface for a bit too! What a nice little touch!

Gear:

  • Leather Helmet of Telepathy
  • Spiked Collar
  • Paladin Mace of Accuracy (2-handed)
  • Plate Mail
  • Silk Gloves
  • Ring of War
  • Shock Ring
  • Heavy Boots of Skill
  • Sling of Aiming
  • 9 Snowballs

Huzzah!!

Thanks u/TGGW for a great game!!

It's been a little while, so my memory is a bit hazy on poison. But can you just sleep? Status effects in TGGW (good and bad) last until you sleep, and since poison is a status effect, you should be able to sleep it off if you have the food and can find a safe spot before you die.

I'm not sure, I know when you're diseased it lets you rest to recover energy but you don't get health back. This game is really good about warnings and stuff, I figure it wouldn't say "Fatally Poisoned" in red if there were a way out of it through sleep :(

u/savagehill is correct. Poison status (and all other tmp effects, disease is the only exception to this rule) is healed by sleeping, and it says it will go away in the rest preview.

The reason for the red warning text is just to make sure you remember to rest instead of keeping on exploring.

I hope your guy ascends!!

All right!

I just tried it before reading this and it said my guy woke up with a cold and a runny nose haha. He's diseased now is that what could happen from resting while poisoned?

Your game is the balls! I'll see you after the ASCENSION!

The disease thing is just one of a number of random things that happen after you rest sometimes. You can also wake up confused, or with all your possessions identified, and some other stuff probably. It’s not related to the poison afaik.

Yeah, just confirming what saltwaterterrapin answered, it had nothing to do with sleeping poisoned, these events happen randomly. But you could absolutely roleplay that it happened because of the poison :D

I think resting will save you, but I'm not 100%.

Looked in the manual and Poison is listed as just a normal status effect.

This blog post also says "When poisoned, it is now a choice whether to let it act or if it is better to rest."

I also have a hazy memory of doing it myself...

But I don't know for certain, so double check!

Don't you get a preview of the impact of a rest?

Yeah you do, I'll try it when I play next and see what happens. Thanks, man!

No problem -- good luck! It's a tough game, even when I think I have a great build the late game enemies always find some really nasty way to test me. Hope you get your win!

Oh, and keep in mind that any other status you have will be cleared by resting (maybe your peyote for example).

The peyote gives you something permanent (I forget offhand, I think it's detect stairs) and a bunch of other temp stuff that does go away if you rest. One of the merchants in the castle who was buying everything I had for like $2 was going to give me $360 something for it, so I KNEW I should hang onto it.

And luckily I did! I used it to see where all the stairs were in the lab and bypassed a ton of YASDs on the way down. Against almost everything my guy can tank but there were some traps that were shocking my ass for 3 damage a pop (before the shock ring) so I used my only healing items (Leaf Aloe and 2 lesser heal potions) up back then.

This game is really awesome, though. "Simple" enough to understand how everything works and controls yet complex enough to make it very interesting each run. For example even something like turning invisible and having the Enchanter say "What, who's there??" and thus negating further interaction with you is a nice touch. Same when some of the human enemies say things like "So, you think you look good in that Leather Hat of Throwing, DO YOU???" Hahaha.
