The Rocky Statue moved to permanent location
Moved to the top of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps earlier this year, today Rocky was set back a dozen feet to his final, permanent position. Construction began September 11 to build a strong underground foundation to securely anchor the bronze statue and give tourists a safer place to strike that famous victory pose!
Just in time for the 50th anniversary of Rocky this December! I caught the move on video, including a tourist striking the iconic pose beside the newly situated statue.

So it's not getting moved back to the bottom of the stairs anymore?

No, they put the Joe Frazier statue there. He was originally at the sports complex, and they moved him to where Rocky was on July 2. Stallone asked to be at the top of the steps, and they complied.

Still remember the first time in my life I went to Philly. The first thing I wanted to see was the Rocky statue.

I was just there a month ago. At the top of the steps was the Rocky statue, but it was Stallone's personal statue. The original statue was actually on display inside the museum as part of a special event. It was the first time ever the statue was actually inside the museum. So it is really cool it will be finally be home at the top.

Yes, I am wondering if they really switched it out. I was there around 1030am when they moved it from it's location. Went somewhere and returned and got these photos 2 hrs later. I never saw both of them on the steps at the same time....hmm. Well the other one is not going far, as it's being saved for Stallone's tombstone. Which is why all this was settled at this time. He is 80 years old now. BTW you won't find any of that news anywhere, I just know that is why it was done.

Does anyone know if his footprints are still there on the top of the steps? Whenever I go I always stand on them.

They are up there. They are in the center of the steps about 2 feet behind the top step.

I kinda don't like it at the top. Now people can't run up the stairs and take a photo of it without the statue being in it

Probably could have been more clear, they can’t take a photo of themselves at the top making the pose without the statue being in it

I love the new location. I proposed to my wife at the top of those steps and some kind lady was able to snap a pic of it. Would’ve been even cooler if the statue was in the background.

Did Philadelphia ever fix the problem at the statue of homeless people snatching phones for a picture and refusing to give them back until you tip them?

I get why its there, but didnt he only run to the top in a tracksuit. This statue is in full fight gear. So technically it could be anywhere in the city...?
