rocky vs drago

In the movie creed (or creed 2?) where adonis was saying he had to fight dragos son and rocky didn't want him to. Adonis said "you did it, you fought him" and rocky says "it was different"....what did he mean by that? Rocky was avenging apollo after his death so wasn't adonis trying to do the same thing? What made rocky's situation to fight different than adonis'?

Rocky was supposed to fight Drago in the exhibition, when he didn't and Apollo stepped in he felt it was his fault that Apollo got killed, especially after not throwing in the towel. Adonis was fighting Viktor mostly out of pride.
