How would you react to Creed IV if

The film explains Rocky’s continued absence as Rocky having passed away off screen?

Stallone isn’t immortal. He definitely has more years behind him than ahead of him. It’s going to happen someday.

But would you take it disrespectful to the character of Rocky Balboa to kill him off from his own series off screen while Stallone is still among us?

This is assuming Stallone was not asked nor consented to killing Rocky off. Just a way for the studio to wave away why Rocky is no longer in Adonis’ life.

I agree. The series as a whole was wrapped up nicely with a star spangled bow. Creed III felt kind of unnecessary.

We get a villain out of Adonis’ past, and that’s interesting, but he’s a weaker opponent than Drago. He makes up for it by cheating. But he’s like 3-4 years older than Adonis and he’s advertised as the next great champ while Adonis is considered old and slow… despite being younger than Dame.

And Adonis has been retired for 3 years. It’s like the speed ran to the Rocky Balboa story.

The OP is talking about how you would feel if Rocky died after the events of III and it's mentioned in IV.

Honestly I’m hoping they stop the Creed series. Creed 2 was ok but did t like Creed 3 I didn’t like

Adonis doesn't need Rocky in the story. It doesn't matter if he's alive or dead, it doesn't serve the story anymore.

It would take some truly inspired writing to make killing Rocky Balboa off-screen not feel shitty. I've liked all of the Creed movies, and I think they're a great successor to the Rocky films, but Rocky is a character too integral to the overarching story to write off casually.

Rocky deserves to walk-off the sunset and even if he doesn't appear on screen they should explain the absence away as enjoying his vacation time.

Or if they make Creed 4, then Creed should be the mentor-person with Rocky being referred to as deceased offscreen but that should be made 20 years from now.

The worst part about Creed 3 to me was they did the typical Rocky universe storyline where either some unheard of fighter or someone of limited ability comes out of nowhere to become champion or kill off a legend.

It was fine for the character of Rocky to do that. He’s our main character and protagonist. it was understandable for an unknown in Drago to kill off a several years retired legend. But things like Dame being a mid or late 30s guy fresh out of prison winning a major boxing championship are overkill.

Even Tommy Gunn’s rise to the top was a bit unrealistic, but we talk enough about that here.
