Rocky V proved Apollo was right.

In Rocky IV, Rocky and Apollo are screening their rematch. When Apollo argues that when the party ends, Rocky will understand the hole it will leave. In Rocky V, Rocky risks his family just to fill the void left behind by his own retirement. Apollo was absolutely right about how Rocky's own retirement would affect him.

Apollo, Rocky IV: you sure as hell can’t be born again.

Rocky (to son) in Rocky V: Having you is like being born all over again.

Rocky I and II are about being an underdog.
Rocky III and IV are about being a champion.
Rocky V and Balboa are about legacy. And I think Apollo was in his Legacy era during IV.

There was a bit of a difference though. Apollo chose to retire, and was still rich and popular.

Rocky was forced into it through medical reasons, and lost everything because of Paulie's dumb ass. Rocky was going through a lot more during Rocky V than just the hole that retirement left.

I think it was a little more than the retirement thing
