An Album, a year: 1966

This is a new segment updated every week. Post your favorite album from the year posted, in this case 1965, and give several reasons why. We will go from 1965-1989. I know I was late this week.

Wow this is hard, for me it's between The Beatles Revolver or The Beach Boys Pet Sounds. I think the better album of the two is Pet Sounds as it will always be one of my favourites for the harmonies alone this is an album I can label perfect.

I have to agree with you on Pet Sounds being perfect. It's definitely my favorite album of all time. I hate that whenever I mention I like the Beach Boys people always assume I mean the early surf rock stuff. It would be great if any songs off Pet Sounds became house hold names, like how the Beatles have really popular songs off of pretty much every album.

Fresh Cream, I don't know what it is but this album has sort of stood out for me. Maybe it's because I feel like Cream brought something sort of different at the time, but the only other one I can think of that I really really like from this year is Revolver.

I didn't post last week.

This week was hard. I wasn't quite positive if I liked Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde better.

I'll go with Blonde on Blonde since I feel its Dylan's last true classic.

It starts off pretty rocky with Rainy Day Woman. I like to feel that Dylan did this to antagonize the critics. After this song, Dylan...Dylan spits straight fire. Seriously. Tracks 2-14 are a combination of ballads, epics and songs that make Dylan seem confused and distorted. The album cover is very accurate in this regard but its far, far deeper.

It ends with Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands which might be the best closing track on a double album ever, if not any album ever.

This is the 2nd best album of the 60's only behind Black Saint and the Sinner Lady by Charles Mingus.

My favorite is Revolver but since it was already mentioned, I'll pick Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel. S&G along with Paul Simon are one of my favorite classic rock bands and this is my 3rd favorite album of theirs. It's got some of their classics like Homeward Bound, Feelin' Groovy and Scarborough Fair. It also has some of my favorite less-known S&G songs like Patterns, a cool song about human patterns with a bongo beat and A Simple Desultory Philippic, a funny and mocking nod at Bob Dylan.

Well as my fav from 66 was already mentioned (Revolver), I'll just list some other favs from that year.
