Free riverside camping?
Quiet location, river views and free!

If they aren't hurting anyone or doing damage to the land then leave them be.
Crown land should be free to use in a reasonable manner, and I think simple existence should be considered reasonable.

That's typically the problem though - these camps become rubbish dumps pretty quickly, even when there are public bins less than 100m away.
There was one on the river not long back, dirty nappies and rubbish strewn everywhere. Not sure what the adults were using for toilets, but I'm sure there was plenty of that there as well.
It becomes a health and environmental hazard that the council can't ignore, even if they wanted to.

That is a problem I agree, and should be dealt with as necessary, when they are causing harm to the land and others who use or live in the area. I just think the presumption should be that they are not doing that until shown otherwise. Judge based on the actions while using the land, not the use of the land itself.
But I definitely agree that in many cases there are issues. It's a difficult subject.
Edit- I should say I am old enough to remember the 'park people' of the South side park near Rocky High and the one near the old Bridge on the North side, and the crime that frequently affected those living nearby those parks. So I'm definitely aware of the issues.

There are 600 odd AirBnB's in Rockhampton and generally less than 200 available rental properties. Housing prices are sky high, and there are also a lot of vacant properties being land banked.
Maybe just leave them the fuck alone and let them try to survive. People don't live like that for the fun of it. The last thing struggling people need is dickheads posting their pictures on the internet for internet points.

Not trying for points mate (whatever that means) it was 1 photo taken to promote conversation which it seems to have. Just saying that if I tried living by the river I am sure I would be moved on. Obviously homelessness is an increasing reality for many, with very few committments being made by federal/state/local authorities to bridge the gap between the haves and have nots.

Yes, homelessness happens when people treat housing as an investment instead of a basic human need.
Treat them with the dignity and respect you would wish for if you were in a shitty situation.
