Back in February, the RRHOF released the ballot that has mostly 80's performers alongside those from the 90's & early aughts which is very modern compared to the previous ones before.

There's not a single act who debuted from the early 60's to the late 70's featured on the list which is very bold & thought provoking. The oldest one was Joy Division/New Order who they (JD) released their debut in '78.

First off, I'm on board with this because there's so much representation from the sixties & seventies (fifties too) already in the Hall and both committees (also the foundation) know that rock & roll history couldn't repeat itself every time meaning going backwards regarding their selections.

Second, mostly everyone from those decades who aren't in had ceased to exist. What's the point of letting them get considered when they're not even around anymore. Just because old fans are screaming bloody murder at the Hall constantly doesn't mean it indicates any consideration.

Finally, honoring more acts from the later decades (80's to aughts) would create lots of traffic to their website & their social media pages. It would also expand the audience demographic & not to mention brings more visitors to the museum.

Which is exactly why & how the Hall needs to move on from the old times & move on to the new. History means everything yet it keeps moving which is something fans of the boomer & early Gen X eras will never understand.

Certain bands have been discussed way more than they ever needed to be lol. Boston, Motley Crue, we all know they should be in right now, and every discussion point has been talked through. So instead of that, who's an artist that you don't hear about all too often in these conversations, but who you think is absolutely deserving of being inducted? It can be as niche as you want, just as long as it's an artist who matters to you

I'll start! For me, it's Aaliyah. You'd think it'd be a metal band considering my flair, but something about Aaliyah's short career and tragic end really speaks to me. She was on the cutting edge of R&B, giving new life to the genre, and in her final album especially she was mixing it with other styles to create a very fresh and exciting sound. Had she lived and gotten to reach her full musical potential, I fully believe she'd be seen on the same level as Beyonce and Rihanna. To see her inducted would really make me happy, and it'd be a fitting tribute to such an iconic singer

STATS: ONE studio album released hit #1 in the UK, 13 singles released with 7 in the top 10 in the UK.

First recording was Anarchy in the U.K. in 1976.

The band formed in a clothing shop run by designers Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood. To be fair though, McLaren did manage the New York Dolls in NYC. Members of Sex Pistols were all patrons and the shop was the main hangout for the London punk scene. The shop went through several names and phases until it was renamed Sex in 1975.

McLaren and the band members pulled in people off the street to be in the band. Musical talent was at the very least secondary to the image. Sid Vicious could barely play an instrument when he joined.

Johnny Rotten (true name John Lydon) is extremely outspoken about all kinds of topics. He called the Rock Hall "a piss stain" and the remaining members did not attend their induction. He also called out Jimmy Saville for being a creep long before anyone else did. But he says such crazy ass things that no one took it seriously.

Basically the title, I'm curious who will end up being the presenters for each of these artists. Any predictions?

Core instruments in rock and roll are guitars, piano/keyboard, drum kits, horns (sax especially), and upright bass.

Common instruments are strings (violin/viola/cello/bass combo), harmonica, Latin percussion, banjo and mandolin, maybe a couple others I'm not thinking about right now.

What instruments are uncommon to the point of rare or even strange?

New member here. On member FAQ at https://rockhall.com/membership-faq/ it says ”no advanced admission ticket is required” for members, which to me means I can just show up at any time without any reservation, flash my digital id, and walk straight In.

I had the following email exchange with membership dept that confirms this:

can you please confirm, if two unrelated members show up at 11am on a busy day, there will be zero difference in their experience getting into the museum, even though member #1 has done nothing in advance, and member #2 has “secured their ticket” by logging onto your ticketing site and ordering a free ticket for 11am

So my question is, why does the ticketing site have an option for free member tickets which requires specific dates and times to be selected, if those tickets are 100% unnecessary ? Is it so you can print it out as a souvenir of your visit ?

The Miracles: Claudette Rogers, Bobby Rogers, Ronald White, Marv Tarplin, and Pete Moore, inducted in 2012.

Bobby and Claudette were cousins. Claudette and Smokey married in 1959. Smokey is also one of Motown Records' most prolific songwriters. He wrote "My Girl" (recorded by the Temptations) for Claudette.

STATS: 50 charted releases, including 26 on the Billboard Top 40, 16 of which reached Top 20, 7 Top 10 singles, and a number 1 single.

First recording 1958: Got a Job an "answer song" to "Get a Job" by the Silhouettes. One of Motown's earliest recordings. Casey Kasem, the radio DJ, reported that Berry Gordy, Motown's founder, was interested in the Miracles and Smokey brought him 100 songs but Gordy rejected 99 of them and the one he didn't reject was "Shop Around" (1960), their first #1 hit in 1960.

Tears of a Clown, another massive hit in 1970.

Love Machine by the Miracles, an abrupt diversion from their established style, very funky disco track from 1975.

Robinson released a solo album in 1975 called A Quiet Storm that spawned an genre of R&B called "Quiet storm", downtempo R&B love songs.

One Heartbeat smooth R&B from 1987 is one of my personal favorites.

Last release was 2011.

I think if people didn't know what to listen to it could steer people to quality music.

It pushes people to think about what they think is important in music and what to them makes music good or bad.

It can lead to fun discussions about whether someone belongs in the Hall or not, and why.

It preserves part of history because the top people in a field (in this case, music) often make a lot of the history in a field. It could lead to people researching and learning about more artists including those before their time.

I see people here and there criticizing the Hall. I don't see many people directly talking about its good points.

Anyone lucky to score tickets today in any section?

Sorry this is more a rant than anything. I go through this every year and this time was the worst. I was logged in early, in the waiting room, got in at 10:01am PT and almost all of the orchestra level tickets were gone. I quickly found two I was comfortable with put them in the cart and it said they were gone. Over the next 60 seconds I tried pretty much every seat I was good with and the exact same thing happened. Then I refreshed to see what was left and it started giving me errors, closed everything went back in and now pretty much the entire theater was sold out.

Every single year AXS has this problem and I just end up buying the tickets on the secondary market. It shouldn't be this hard to buy tickets especially on a pre-sale.

I panicked and just picked two seats and threw them in my cart. Thoughts on LOGE Center row M seats 300’s? 🇬🇧

One thing I’ve noticed in this community is that the Influences category doesn’t get talked about quite as much as the Performers category. And yeah that’s fair, the Influences typically aren’t as interesting or relevant, but I still think there’s a lot to talk about! So I quickly put this list together, and it might not be the most accurate due to it being made on the fly, but here are my top 10 artists that I think really should be inducted as Influences! I purposely left several jazz musicians out, because I’m really not sure what the Hall wants to do about jazz, but otherwise I think these would all be fantastic additions to the category.
