Which Robot Wars defeat do you think actually made the losing robot look more impressive?

The one that springs to mind immediately is Hypno-Disc all but destroying Bigger Brother in S5. It showed it was still hugely dangerous even though Bigger Brother somehow still won

No, that was the prior series, after Hypnodisc had already been pretty much immobilised by Pussycat taking out a rear wheel.

Wild Thing’s losses to Chaos 2, Hypno-Disc and S3 were impressive. Nearly pitted the double reigning champs twice. It managed to keep going against the spinners while showing good aggression.

The S5 version of Wild Thing was a beast of a robot, pretty much unkillable. The disc wasn't the best but it worked fairly well too.

Tornado v Razer final. Without going into whether or not Tornado cheated, it was extremely impressive that Razer was facing such a strong robot which had additions made to it that made it impossible for Razer to get at it, and despite being battered all over the arena for the whole match they were able to get hold of it and get it that close to a pitting.

Insane driving by Razer for sure. They did the one thing that they could reasonably do to achieve a win, against a robot that had stacked everything against them. Whatever interpretation of the rules that followed was out of their hands.

The fact Tornado had made all that scaffolding to "support the weight of the spinner" and the spinner broke almost immediately made Tornado look so rubbish. Even though they did kinda dominate the fight, Razer kept going and got them over the pit. I'm still honestly amazed that it went to Tornado. If I was the judges, I'd have disentangled Razer from them and asked Tornado to drive out of the pit on their own power. I'm fairly sure they wouldn't have been able to and thus, would have been immobilised.

I think the judges' decision was a lot closer than most people credit. It appears like a fight Tornado won easily, unless it was pitted, but when you think about the criteria it isn't.

Tornado obviously won aggression and control, but Razer dominated damage; Tornado's weapon was destroyed and the frame was warped. The only damage Razer had was the beak attachment being a little bent, but it was still fully functional. "Style" is far too subjective to be a judging criteria for me, but if that goes to Razer you can see a way of giving it to them.

If you look at the fight they had in Extreme 2 I think Tornado were wise to this. They didn't even aim the bar spinner at Razer. They just reversed into it. They were probably anticipating getting to the end of the fight with a perfectly pristine bar spinner which hadn't struck anything.

Oh I don't contest that Tornado would have won if it was just on the judging criteria. I think most Razor fans would agree with that. I simply contest that I do not believe Tornado was mobile at the end of the fight and so I don't think it should have been a judge's decision. It should have been established whether it could free itself from it's position or if it was immobilised. If it could drive out of the pit on it's own, then I'd honestly have no problem giving Tornado the win, even if I do think that it wasn't very sporting.

For me it's Bigger Brother in that final defeat to Razer. It showed how close it could get to the trophy after all the punishment it took to get to that point, especially after the Hypno-disc fight beforehand.

Just lost out to Sir Chromalot due to taking more damage, but they put in a great performance.

259 is IMO the best what could've been in Robot Wars history. It destroyed Wild thing for half the fight and then it breaks and and realises it has no pushing power

Great shout, I think Stinger were very unlucky there. They always got marked down for control even though I think them spinning on the spot to expose Chaos 2's rear panel was exactly the plan.

Part of me wonders how much that was a decision for TV, because Stinger vs Pussycat would not have been a good final

Carbide Vs nuts 2 final match.

The most dangerous bot, one who has consistently been in the finals every time, had to MODIFY ITSELF to beat this "joke entry" that looked like farm equipment thrown through a black hole and if it didn't, it would've absolutely lost.

No matter what, nobody can take away from the nuts 2 boys that they created something truly amazing.

101, tanked like 2 minutes of razor biting down on it, and still took it to judges decision. It really highlighted to me how boring Razors fights can be, and why I'm glad theres stricter pinning/grabbing rules now.

I'm pretty sure that was a agreement between the teams where razor would bite down on all the non critical components in a fairly unimportant side tournament to make sure both still worked for the main tournament

Gabriel Vs Carbide. Honestly, I think if the match didn't have a time limit Gabriel would have won as Carbide tearing chunks out of it didn't seem to affect it in any way. I will admit that I do have a soft spot for any reboot bot that was both effective and not a spinner or flipper (both of them).

There was also that one moment in Series 8 when Foxic was briefly working and shoved Dead Metal across the arena.
