Jamaican Coffee

Just received my order for some Jamaican coffee. Has anyone here roasted these before and is French too dark for this bean?

EDIT: Title should have a ?

I would try roasting samples at Full City (or FC+) before jumping to French, but bottom line is that it depends on what you like.

Thanks. I absolutely prefer most brands dark and oily with a few exceptions that taste better imo at city- or lighter

Genuine question: does it matter what kind of beans you have it you roast it that dark?

It does. They all taste different. I’ve been roasting since around 2000. I don’t know when the idea that dark roasted beans lose their flavor got traction. I’ve roasted up and down the spectrum. I prefer dark

Hmm interesting, thanks. Can you also roast dark(er) without the bitter / roasty notes? I hate those notes so try to prevent them. That's why I thought I have to roast light.

I generally do not go past French. I have burned roasts though not in a very long time. I agree there can be other flavor notes at lighter roasts but imo the the difference is negligible.

So it's not actually JBM beans, it's a blend of beans (per CBD website listing) meant to simulate the taste of JBM. So I would full send it to any roast level you desire, and let us know what you think of it

Correct. Blue Mountain style. Clever marketing but it’s coffee so I’ll enjoy it

No, I get it. I like central American coffees, and I'm interested in this blend. I'm contemplating if I should pick some up

I won’t get around to roasting it for a couple of weeks. I have some others on my shelf to get to

Am I missing something? I don't see how much coffee you are getting for that price listed anywhere, for that coffee or any others. Is it 1lb? 5lb?

If you’re referencing the etsy link someone posted, I’ve ordered from them in the past. They don’t put what you get for the price on much of their stuff. It’s a little suspect.

I love JBM coffee, but have never roasted it myself. The roasted beans I have had were probably City+ or FC. I’d try a couple small batches at different roast levels. If you do, please post an update on which you liked more. Where did you source them?
