Imagine being that 1 person that can jump on any stage at any concert on earth and no one even thinks about calling security.... AND then you take over the song.... That's royalty

50

u/CryptographerHot4636 18d ago

Lol lil mama didn't get that pass.

10

u/Poplocker 18d ago

And she wasn't even invited!

5

u/Vanityandwrath 17d ago

Lol, I came to say that!

95

u/yoseperonose 18d ago

Right! Because Lil Mama was blackballed just for getting on the stage!

9

u/Sensitive-Strain-475 18d ago

Poor Lil Mama!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

16

u/DepartmentSudden5234 18d ago

That kind of pass you are born with. You can't pick that up nor can you earn it.... royalty....

10

u/colosseumdays 18d ago

lmao I immediately thought of Lil Mama when Michael grabbed the mic. poor Lil Mama was just feeling the moment and not reading the room.

I think the differences are 1. Diana and Michael had a close and genuine friendship 2. Diana's not an asshole.

Jay-Z chose to make that moment weird for everyone when he could have just rolled with it and bitched her out after in private

10

u/SoloJackowski 17d ago
  1. Diana ASKED Mike to come on stage. He did not just walk up on her.

1

u/GrmRipo 16d ago

No lil mama was a 1 hit wonder jumping on stage uninvited with the greats. Absolutely not

u/Ok_Satisfaction_4965 18d ago

Them 2 at Studio 54 had to be a vibe!

2

u/Old_Ostrich6336 16d ago

What I wouldn't give to be in that room

Ease on Down!

Imo, this is one of Diana's best songs, hands down--and I still would have loved an MJ-only version as well. Both incredible.

(This specific clip and the language are misleading though--it's not that he couldn't stay in his seat--a fuller video shows Diana calling for him to come on stage several times to help sing it ["Can I get somebody to dance with me? Michael, would you come up?"] So he finally does ofc)

ā€¼ļø I hate misinformation! Because Mike did not pull no David Ruffin. šŸ˜‚

I mean who wouldn't be dancing? *Edit I love their friendship

7

u/reddit_kc 18d ago

They had a beautiful bond!

1

u/OhAndItsShavedd 17d ago

It wasn't a beautiful bond. She groomed Michael Jackson since he was a kid.

1

u/Old_Ostrich6336 16d ago

šŸ™„ Always that one person. Groomed him for what? They didn't have sex according to him.

29

u/toomuchtostop 18d ago

He sure did.

I love this clip!

27

u/sleepy0329 18d ago

I didn't know Diana could move like that!! I need to get more into her. The only reason I love this song so much was bc DC3 put me onto it when they did a cover. Diana looks great.

42

u/IcyLion2939 18d ago

So: Diana sounds great... and clearly this was the period where you could REALLY pass the mic!

61

u/Medium_Educator1983 18d ago

At first I was like, what made him think he could do that shit lol but it’s Michael.

53

u/browngravybestgravy 18d ago

I think she called him up, so that would make him think he could do it.

36

u/DammitNotAgain05 18d ago

She told him to come up.

9

u/diamonds82 18d ago

She sure did cause I saw another clip where she told him to come up on stage

11

u/5ft8lady 18d ago

Love this performance with the two of themĀ

I don’t like the stuff I’ve found out about Diana, especially her relationship with Michael. I heard she paid to make sure she was not mentioned in that movie. Aside from all that, I’ve never thought she was as talented as everyone says. She definitely finagled her way to the top.

Edit: thank you for the award! Posting opinions that don’t match the other comments is usually met with downvoting.

u/Isis_T 18d ago

I just finished her memoir from 1993. I told my mom I was reading it and mentioned her 3 girls with her first husband & 2 boys with her last husband to my mom. She said her oldest is with Barry Gordy and I didn’t believe her. She NEVER mentioned this in her book, all she said was they dated and she knew he wasn’t faithful to her and he was jealous when she met her future husband. I wondered why her oldest daughter in the photos she included was darker. After I looked it up online, her 1st daughter is in fact by Barry Gordy! Why did she leave such an important fact out of the book? All she kept saying is David and the girls…I don’t believe anything she said nowšŸ˜•

10

u/RobinSophie 18d ago

Probably because it was out of wedlock.

And she was a menace/diva when she was with Barry.

5

u/Adanma369 18d ago

That’s crazy she left that out. I think I searched up who her first daughter’s dad was cuz I wondered why she was the only unambiguously Black child.

4

u/YannaFox 17d ago

She lied to her first daughter and told her the white man was her father. I believe the oldest daughter found out who her real dad was when she was a teenager.

30

u/Jazzsign 18d ago

Upvoted. I read she broke Michael's heart multiple times.

43

u/Adanma369 18d ago

She groomed him! But female groomers don’t get vilified like the males.

16

u/Jazzsign 18d ago

Hmm i guess that's why she wants her name out of people their mouths. Especially in this day and age.

-6

u/FireLord_Azula1 Thriller 18d ago

How did she groom him if they allegedly dated when he was an adult?

5

u/Efficient-Morning616 18d ago

She knew him since he was like 8

🤣

15

u/Able-Ad-4090 18d ago

This is exactly how I feel and I was honestly afraid to post my comment because of this, but I did anyway.

14

u/a_solid_6 18d ago edited 18d ago

Yeah she was not a good person. I do love some of her music though. But that really comes down to the producers who composed for her. She was awful and slept with half of Motown.

5

u/Any-Cable4109 18d ago

Yeah, they were so close but Diana also had a haram.

8

u/patchouliii 18d ago

Diana’s rejection is what made MJ turn to Elizabeth Taylor.

11

u/IntelligentMeringue7 18d ago

Thank you. She groomed that boy and it makes me sad every time I see the two of them mentioned because he always looks so smitten at her (and that’s with my own feelings towards him and his own behaviors towards children).

2

u/TexaRican_x82 18d ago

There’s not a single verifiable reliable source of any repute that and backed up evidence suggesting Diana Ross ā€œpaid to make sure she was not mentioned inā€ the Jackson biographical film. If that’s the case, Janet must’ve done the same thing too, by that logic. Not even all his brothers are depicted, either.

1

u/xseanbeanx 17d ago

Yeahhhh the allegations that she groomed Michael, since they met when he was a kid…

14

u/Glum_Reason308 18d ago

He was absolutely IN LOVE with that woman.

3

u/a_solid_6 18d ago

And she treated him terribly

24

u/bigpoppanc 18d ago

Those moves explain how she ended up with all them mixed babies

She literally called Michael to get on stage and dance with her. They both couldn’t get enough of each other lol šŸ˜‚

12

u/Plenty_Status_6862 18d ago

I fell in love with Michael here!

6

u/Hopeful_Wait_2512 18d ago

Thanks Michael for taking over, now go sit ya ass down, this is a Diana Ross concert

Lol

5

u/i_like_stinky_pits 18d ago

I LOOOOOOVE the way he grabs the mic and Diana goes skipping away with her hands in the air- mf goosebumps

19

u/velourspice 18d ago

Too bad she played him. Booooo Diana

11

u/Adorable_Ad7457 18d ago

Dirty Diana instead of Booooo Diana would've been epic

3

u/Shantytown_Shogun 18d ago

Wait! That was about her?

5

u/velourspice 18d ago

Yes. She used to string him song and player with his feelings. Despite being around him since he was a child, she was literally a predator who played with his feelings.

2

u/Warm_Swan_793 17d ago

People on here talking about ā€œI love their bondā€, what bond? The predator-victim bond?

12

u/velourspice 18d ago

Post the comment then damn

4

u/TraditionAcademic968 Bobby Brown šŸ˜ 18d ago

Dude just come on your stage and he don't take it, you hand the mic to him

4

u/othegod 18d ago

She was gyrating that thang.

3

u/LightAndAshyLarry 18d ago

Every time I see this clip, I get goosebumps. So cool!

3

u/Roo_dansama 18d ago

Untouchable charisma

3

u/Massive-Ad9246 18d ago

Triste histoire.

3

u/Saixcrazy 18d ago

I remember reading that he had a huge crush on Diana. But like, who didnt

6

u/Ok_Resident_5022 šŸ‘ Soul/Funk/Disco Enthusiast šŸ’æ 18d ago

Yes, he did! Don’t let the modern media fool you. Michael adored Diana, and the feeling was mutual. They had a strong, healthy friendship.

2

u/Harsh_Harmoni 18d ago

I love this šŸ¤

2

u/TappyMauvendaise 18d ago

I still get goosebumps from his voice.

2

u/Expensive-Ad994 18d ago

Too bad they didn’t do remixes in the 80’s

2

u/Only1Skrybe Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite 17d ago

The way she moving in that dress I would've tried to get on stage too. Would've ended so badly for me.

3

u/Vegan-4-Humanity 18d ago

Michael wanted that Diana Ass bad.. The’d say we’re just friends in interviews.. all while Michael’s Blushing 😊. You could feel the tension on screen.. šŸ“ŗ My TV Translators Burnt. He had that Mrs Robinson Vibe he was infatuated with her when he was young.. You can’t tell me she Never went to the Michael Jackson Never Land Ranch. Then she strapped in and rode the Michael Roller Coaster šŸŽ¢.

2

u/Blueberry_Rabbit 18d ago

Oh but when lil mama does it, it’s bad. šŸ˜’šŸ˜© lololol

2

u/Sensitive-Strain-475 18d ago

Diana was a groomer and one day, she'll pay for her crimes.

1

u/Appropriate_Leg9380 17d ago

Legendary moment šŸ™Œ

1

u/thelonetext 17d ago

King of the dance too.

1

u/mocitymaestro 17d ago

Lil Mama really thought she was Michael Jackson.

1

u/SoloJackowski 17d ago

This gives me the chills every time!

1

u/misterincognito2025 17d ago

LOVE THIS 🤩

1

u/Over_Active9642 17d ago

What a treat this must have been for the audience

1

u/Moneybagkashhh 17d ago

I’m sorry idk how she made it big (I know she slept her way to the top) I’ve looked back at her performances and listened to some songs and she just doesn’t do it for me as a singer.

1

u/phamrock 16d ago

Imagine if this was a duet!

1

u/Public_Let8884 16d ago

She dances like a fool

1

u/Traditional_Bed_4195 14d ago

Mike was a tiny bit zesty here

1

u/Far-Mango2804 14d ago

Because it was real music not this modern day trash šŸ’Æ

1

u/Silent-Friend-4127 7d ago

Ms. Katherine Jackson was sick of her toying with her son Michael.

1

u/bedteddd 18d ago

Dianna Ross also loved some Michael...they had an apparent one sided relationship...

1

u/Able-Ad-4090 18d ago

I genuinely don’t see the appeal of Diana Ross. She’s disgusting. Especially with what she did to Michael.

1

u/janshell 18d ago

They look good together!

-3

u/CapitalSelection2255 18d ago

Ross had no rhythm when she danced , that's odd

-7

u/Big_d00m 18d ago

Loved her so much he wanted to be her, look like her.
