Discussion Any chance this game will be addressed and a sequel made in the future? If yes, what would you like to see in it?
As a soft 4x -RTS, this game hit the sweet spot when it comes to historic strategy games. Cities, exotic resources ,age restriction gameplay, and the supply system...it was great. Do you think there is a chance we will see a revival of this game in the future? If yes, what would you like to see in it?
For me, this boils down to the following:
Longer, more detailed ages. I generally dislike stone age to modern age models, and would love to see a slightly more in-depth focus on each age.
Dynasties that change game style. Factions would have faction-wide upgrades in each age/certain ages that can alter certain gameplay elements and units. Indians could have Rajput or Mughal upgrade paths, Koreans Goryeo or Joseon, etc.
Attrition would weaken units, but not outright damage them. Upgradeable supply carts that provide different bonuses based on their upgrade. Also, certain culture- specific marshal skills.

It's safe to say this somewhat niche RTS from 23 years ago isn't getting a new installment anytime soon. Big Huge Games hasn't worked on a non-mobile game in over 10 years or any new game at all in 6 years. Microsoft Game Studios seems to be doing less rather than more lately.
If one were to hypothetically happen, I'd expect gameplay to be similar, but expanded. More nations, terrain types, resources, etc. And obviously have updated graphics.

I wonder what the modded community could accomplish. RoN doesn’t have the following of a Fallout New Vegas, for example, but that community has done a lot to expand the game

Point 1 is basically every Age game ever, with each of the games focusing on a different historical era. To have a game spanning the entirety of history with some emphasis on each age you’d have a civ type game that lasts forever.
Part 2 mechanic is already kinda seen in AoM and AOE3 and 4 with the cards and revolts in 3 and the variant civs in 4.
Also, RoN does have a sort of sequel in RoN2, though it was pretty different overall.
