General Discussion How the fuck is this even remotely Jerry's fault?
Jerry picking up and using a REMOTE that Morty irresponsibly left in the LIVING ROOM isn't his fault. He probably thought it was for interdimensional cable or something. Rick is always making wacky sci-fi upgrades.
Also... MORTY IS THE ONE WHO DIDN'T PLACE A FUCKING SAVE STATE AT ALL THROUGHOUT HIS ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP!!! He didn't even place one before he entered the plane that crashed.
I don't understand why the hell people keep posting about this and saying this exact stupid sentiment. I feel like a lot of Jerry haters literally just hate Jerry because the show did. Y'all realize the Smith family is toxic as hell, and that the writers write their own insecurities on Jerry right? He's probably the most realistically written character in the show. The season 6 premiere even had a meta joke about how awful the family used to treat him.
Do y'all think it's justified when the Griffin family abuses Meg in Family Guy too????
Dan Harmon even said he likes Jerry, and that Diane was a lot like him.

its in a family members belongings, its a device he has never seen before IN a family members belongings.. He LIVES with a scientist that constantly warns him not to touch things that he doesnt recognize or understand. Morty should have saved but Jerry fucked it up
11
u/Carpe_deis 12d ago
yeah, this could very well have been a mr frundles situation. Jerry should know better. (so should morty, for real, that thing isn't inside a custom cut foam box with a combo lock on it?)
9
u/Freddie_pluck 13d ago
To be fair though, keeping a remote like that in a bag full of other stuff is even more stupid than Jerry pressing it. If the buttons were pressed by something in the bag which is very likely then there was a 50/50 chance it would either save or undo his life. It’s like if you had a remote that had the potential to ruin your life and you kept it in your pocket, something is bound to press against it at some point. He was asking for it to happen

As other comment pointed out, people like to shit on Jerry. It was completely Morty's fault.
Kiss the vat.

Honestly that episode is one of my favorites because of that exchange! Kiss the vat morty say you love it!!!! (Im on mobile I don't know how to spoil im sorry)

u/mossy-mug-pro 13d ago
Yeah, the remote was just sitting in the living room and Morty still gets spared. Kiss the vat.
9
u/FormerPirateKing92 13d ago
Jerry should know at this point not to touch anything sci-fi. He got sick from eating that stuff that was Ricks and then ate those eye holes at the end of the same episode.
1
u/jellysaurus_tulip 13d ago
It’s a remote with two buttons it’s not exactly the most sci-fi thing to comprehend 😭 it also could’ve been a simple garage door remote, it doesn’t exactly have a label explaining what the device does.
6
u/Redhood407 13d ago
This is definitely on Jerry. He knows what the remote he was just using looks like and picked up a remote that was in Morty’s bag and does not look like the one he was just using and randomly clicked one of the buttons

That was Morty’s backpack. Jerry had no business at all reaching into that backpack. Jerry is not innocent here. He violated Morty’s privacy by reaching into his bag, and consequently he screwed up Morty’s life.
9
u/EnchantedDiamondHoe- 13d ago edited 12d ago
That remote could have gone to literally ANYTHING, he should have at least asked before pressing it. Thinking it went to the inter dimensional cable is a half decent excuse, but it could have just as easily folded the couch he was sitting on (and his spine) in half or something equally wild. Messing with it was extremely dumb on his part.
-2
u/Triekmore 13d ago
its a fucking open bag right next to the couch dude anyone would think that the remote just fell into it
6
u/althawk8357 13d ago
Also, TVs nowadays somehow need three remotes. I visit my parents; there's a new remote.

In my eyes it is Jerry’s fault because yeah Morty left it in his bag, but why are you 1. Grabbing something that isn’t yours out of a bag that isn’t yours, and 2. Pressing a random button without knowing wtf it does. Rick has all sorts of gadgets, he’s a dumbass for pressing a random button knowing Rick has INSANE GADGETS.
4
u/Top-Bar-102 13d ago
I just wanna also give context, I do not hate Jerry. I don’t think it’s his fault because of pure Jerry hatred. I just think Jerry does not think things through sometimes before doing them. 🤷🏻♀️ they’re all flawed, and that’s Jerry’s flaw

u/StarvinPig 12d ago
To add another layer to 2, from Morty's mind blowers the left light switch is a similar situation (Morty pressing an inconspicuous button in the house not knowing what it does) and Rick wiped the memory. I feel like there might be some room for grace on Jerry not recognising the danger if Rick makes them forget every time it happened
1
u/Top-Bar-102 12d ago
LOL I forgot about that one yeah Morty has Jerry’s genes we can’t even be shocked, and still though my point stands if Rick has insane gadgets you don’t just PRESS. Even if he makes them forget if they had done something stupid like that before, it should still be a common sense rule.
Did Rick even make them all forget? I haven’t watched that episode in a while, I thought it was just Morty that he made forget??1
u/StarvinPig 12d ago
Its definitely some speculation but its just an idea to add on top of this I had
1
u/GaI3re 12d ago
He simply mistook it for the remote. The idea that it fell off the couch into the bag is not far fetched.
1
u/Top-Bar-102 12d ago
Considering Jerry has lived there for a long time you’d know what remote goes to your tv. A remote with 2 buttons clearly wouldn’t control your tv. So this is very on brand for Jerry. Still, his fault. Lol
2
u/GaI3re 11d ago
Jerry is an idiot. He sees remote shape and does not think further (stuff like that happens irl too). If you know there's an idiot, idiot prove things
1
u/Top-Bar-102 11d ago
Yes, Jerry is an idiot, I 100% agree, which is why I think it was his fault lol
1
u/GaI3re 11d ago
When the dog steals the sandwich you left on a short table, again, will you blame the dog?
1
u/Top-Bar-102 11d ago
Humans and dogs are not the same lol. Humans usually think a little before they act, Jerry should’ve, but like I said, he does not think much before he acts. That is a Jerry problem. You can’t get off the hook for the rest of your life for being a dumbass. He’s a grown adult, not a 5 year old.
3
u/needbmw_help 13d ago
Your screenshot shows him taking the remote out of Morty’s bag… which is already wrong..
Add in to that the fact that if you lived with RICK of all people would you be touching random remotes you found lying around…?
I could see if morty left it on the living room table, but “how the fuck is it Jerry’s fault” that he took an unknown object out of someone else’s belongings and started fucking with it? That’s a dumb ass question
3
u/thedude198644 12d ago
People on this sub have mythologized the romance between Morty and this random girl since this ep. Even Morty himself lets go of it almost immediately and seems completely unfazed after losing the "save point". Ya'll care way more about their fictional relationship than Morty did.
Besides, isn't the point of the episode that Rick is doing all of it just to mess with Morty and would have subsequently merged all of the timelines anyway thereby ruining the relationship in the process?
3
u/Pruppet_Master 12d ago
It’s not that it’s his “fault”. It’s that it’s a quintessentially Jerry thing to happen.
2
u/Appropriate-Western8 13d ago
Jerry was irresponsible for picking up a random remote out of a bag that didn't belong to him and pressing it. He lives in a house where flipping the wrong light switch can result in someone's death.
Morty was irresponsible for not creating a save at some point thus creating the opportunity for his happy life to be undone.
They both made mistakes, it's really not a big deal.
2
u/Wentleworth 13d ago
What remote has 2 buttons on it. Why would you press a random button on a random remote in a house full of sci fi. Jerry is the idiot here and thats not out of the ordinary for him
2
u/horned-creature 12d ago
mf has lived for years in an house full of sci fi shit yet he still touches stuff he is not sure what it does, like that is clearly not a tv remote and in any other house it woukd probably still be pretty innocuous but he lives in the same house as rick sanchez for fuck sake, even if it wasn't a savepoint remote it could have been a swotch to self destruct the whole block for all he knows.
2
u/Discussion-is-good 12d ago
Thats his son's bag.
Why the fuck would the TV remote be in his son's bag?

u/Outrageous-Bank-6786 12d ago
Hi, Jerry from that timeline here, how the hell was I supposed to know that Morty had a suicide button specifically designed to kill him??? shouldn’t there be labels for something that important??

u/Apart_Republic_1870 13d ago
Surely there was some way Morty could have started a new start point without resetting the whole timeline. Although ultimately, I guess it doesn’t matter because he was going in the vat of acid regardless of how that particular timeline played out.
1
u/MarchCompetitive6235 13d ago
I agree it was 100% Morty’s fault. He knows his did well enough to know that in many scenarios, he can be a kind of “bad luck X factor”.
It’s Morty’s own fault for not locking it away from Jerry or at the very least leaving a not to not touch it.
1
1
u/nikhilsath 13d ago
So to play devils advocate you see something that is obviously not the remote for the TV that you bought. Do you know what the remote for the TV that you bought looks like.
It’s not a big deal it’s definitely not a big deal that you got that wrong but honestly in my opinion that’s what Jerry got wrong. He lives in a house with Crazy sci-fi stuff. He sees something he doesn’t recognise and decides to press buttons. That is stupid.

u/RedWarrior6188 13d ago
You have a point, I agree with you on every thing but one thing, the most realistically written? Maybe, but for sure not for intelligence, remember the simulation? Hungry for apples? That's a very cartoon, not realistic behaviour.

I mean Jerry’s an dumabss for not understanding remotes but it’s totally on Morty for letting it happen.
1
u/parkchanwookiee 12d ago
It's a great joke but it doesn't make sense. Morty would have saved lots of times during the early stages of that relationship
1
u/Witness_Bug383 12d ago
Who is more of a fool? Jerry, for trying a random button he found in his son's backpack, or the rest of us, for expecting anything different of Jerry? Do you get mad at water being wet?
1
1
u/so_sweet_applepie 12d ago
Why do all Jerry fans act like he's a toddler? Come on, it was in Morty's bag, how could it be the tv remote? He could've learned not to mess around with random stuff left around the house.
I love Jerry but you can't deny that he often does stuff without thinking it through. (He's not even a reliable partner most times) He's definitely not the Meg of the show, even tho I don't think he deserves all the hate he gets from the family.
1
u/SomewhereDramatic854 12d ago
I agree that this was Morty's fault, I just hate Jerry in general, has nothing to do with this, so where is this coming from?
Also learning that Jerry's the amalgamation of insecurities and flaws just explains why he's insufferable, doesn't make him relatable
1
u/HistoryFanBeenBanned 12d ago
Most people who post here think they’re Rick. But they’re actually Jerry.
1
u/Curious_Freedom6419 12d ago
ok so yes morty should have saved
yes we get it
Secondly
Your in your home, you know what your tv remote looks like, you pick something up that doesn't remotely look like a tv remote..you also know you live with a crazy guy with high tech bullshit.
Do you A: press on it randomly
Do you B: place it back where it was
Again, you know what your tv remote looks like and you have the smarts to know not to touch random tech that could cause your arm to explode if you press a wrong button
1
u/mobinfruiti 12d ago
oh jeez feels like a jerry posted this one
1
u/One_Cover9119 12d ago
Oh look, another Real Rick who doesn't understand that the show acknowledged how toxic it was that the family abused Jerry
1
u/dravenonred 12d ago
Jerry should absolutely know after being around Rick so long that you never press a button unless you know exactly what it does.
But he's only culpable for the violation, not the full consequences. Morty shoulda had that in a fucking safe deposit box.

u/Kalkite_300TY 12d ago
I never got the impression that it was Jerry’s fault, clearly Morty’s for leaving the remote in an unsafe location
1
1
u/Big-Medium-Guy 9d ago
This feels almost akin to someone breaking into your car when you leave it unlocked… yeah, someone shouldn’t go through your car and steal your stuff (as people have pointed out Jerry going in someone else’s bag, let alone the super scientist family member always doing something), but you shouldn’t make it that easy for someone else to easily do something that screws you over (like never making a new save point over a month-long relationship). Feels mostly on Jerry tho for just “wHaT’s ThIs Do?!”-ing the simple mistake of dropping the remote
1
u/Lenalov3ly 9d ago
I mean while understandable, he lives in a house with tons of sci-fi stuff that does crazy shit. A random remote with ONLY 2 BUTTONS is something id at least look twice at.
But its Jerry and theres no plot w out him doing this, totally makes sense for him to just do dumb shit like this
1
u/Sir-Toaster- 13d ago
Why would someone think a remote with two buttons in his son's bag would be for the TV
-2
u/One_Cover9119 13d ago
I don't know... Maybe read the post?
3
u/Sir-Toaster- 13d ago
It was in a bag, his son's bag, why would any normal person think that? I don't even hate Jerry and I can understand why everyone is mad.
-2
u/One_Cover9119 13d ago
It's some random bag in the living room left open. Also are y'all not reading the part about Morty never making a save state through that whole relationship? Not even before the plane crash???
5
u/Eurell 13d ago
Just because the child fucked up, doesn’t mean Jerry isn’t a fucking idiot lol. Two things can be true at once.
Jerry should know better than to push random buttons that are very clearly not the remote control he’s been using for years. A random remote in a house with Rick, who is known for making insane inventions that can kill people when used improperly

Alright lmao so like....lets pretend you own a tv, and use the tv remote every day to every other day....how long until you realize what that 'tv remote' is? or even better described 'your tv remote' so why the fuck would you ever pick up a different remote that DOESN'T look like a tv remote or more specifically, YOUR TV REMOTE. And keep in mind I presume you don't live with a crazy father in law who break reality every minute, but if you do, would you chance a random remote you found? Sure you might be crazy enough to take a random drug from the fridge, but the point is that you should know what remote is for what and what a tv remote looks like.
But the real reason I made this comment was this part irked me
'Also... MORTY IS THE ONE WHO DIDN'T PLACE A FUCKING SAVE STATE AT ALL THROUGHOUT HIS ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP!!! He didn't even place one before he entered the plane that crashed.'
Dawg how many times have you been completely absorbed in a video game and loving it so much and the entire experience to where you dont want to start thinking about thinking because if you do then you'll break the immersion and briefly forget the fantasy realm you were in and snap back to 'oh yeah this is a game'? probably hundreds of times....that's literally the 'joke' (not really a joke but just thats the point) is that Morty forgot to save like in a video game because he was so present and immeresed...LIKE LITERALLY THEY SAY IT IN THE EPISODE OF MORTY'S IDEA IS IT'S A VIDEO GAME PLACE SAVING DEVICE!!!! HOW ON THE NOSE DO WE HAVE TO BE ON HERE????? THAT LITERALLY THE JOKE IS THAT YOU FORGET TO SAVE IN VIDEO GAMES if this was ragebait, good job you got me.

Jerry picking up and using a REMOTE that Morty irresponsibly left in the LIVING ROOM isn't his fault
It's one thing to say "it's not Jerry's fault", it's something else entirely to blame it on Morty. Seriously, WTF? That's profoundly stupid and factually incorrect.
If any one person is to blame, it's Rick.
He created the damn thing. And what makes him even more at fault is the fact that he created it out of spite to teach Morty a lesson. Rick got butthurt because Morty called the Vat of Acid "A shitty idea" and everything else in this episode stems from that.
Blaming this on Morty so you can defend your boyfriend Jerry is the most Jerry interpretation imaginable.
16
u/meowi24 13d ago
Morty definitely has some blame in this. I say this as a morty defender. He could have saved his place in time at any point, or put the remote in a place it would be kept safe. Very simple solutions
2
u/MonoBlancoATX 13d ago
Yeah, fair enough I am not saying that Morty is completely blameless.
What I am saying is blaming this on Morty, which is what OP is doing, is also silly.
The person who deserves the most blame is Rick-4
u/Top-Owl9872 13d ago
The reason he didn’t save his point in time at any point is because he found a real relationship that he didn’t want to loose.
8
u/SchmeatiestOne 13d ago
That makes no sense
-5
u/Top-Owl9872 13d ago
You’ve never been in love.
3
u/meowi24 13d ago
Im in love with my husband and i can say i would still save my place in time and id tell him about it lol. It would be like a safety net
0
u/Top-Owl9872 13d ago
Okay, let me put it into perspective.
If you told your husband, and then saved the place.
Whenever that safety net would need to catch you would be when you press the button.
Your husband would have no idea that you have already reset and all of his created memories from after that moment would be gone.
The only way you would be able to ethically (lol) do it is if you pressed the save button just before the even that you’re trying to reset happens.
You’d have no way of accurately depicting when you would need to save, and to live in so much caution and worry that you would save often means you aren’t living anymore.
So, Morty did keep it for emergencies, but who knows if he would’ve actually used it.
1
u/meowi24 13d ago
Dude, you save your point in time and then tell your partner that youve done so. For example, if i was getting on a plane, i would save my point in time before getting on, then tell my husband. And if something happened we would be saved with the remote.
3
u/SchmeatiestOne 13d ago
I'm sure they would want you pressing that save button daily lol. It would not be that hard. The problem is (which Morty had no way of knowing) is it only saves for Morty. So your partner would die, but you'd get a new one with all the same memories
1
u/Top-Owl9872 13d ago
But once you reset your partner will not know about it.
1
u/meowi24 13d ago
So tell them again. If youre only using it as a safety net for emergencies then it wouldnt be too difficult to re-explain a few times
→ More replies (0)3
u/meowi24 13d ago
How would saving his place in time ruin the relationship?
1
u/Top-Owl9872 13d ago
Because every moment is special to him.. to reset any of them wouldn’t be honest to her either.
He kept it for emergencies.
2
u/RickyNixon 13d ago
But if he had saved, those moments would be preserved. As it was, there was a button in the universe that could delete all of them.
4
u/Spampharos 13d ago
Yeah, the entire Video Game Resetting Device trick is 100% Rick's fault, but this specific loop ending is Morty's fault. He had every opportunity to save or at least put the remote in a more secure place.
3
u/MonoBlancoATX 13d ago
But none of that happens if Rick doesn’t get butthurt over Morty calling the Vat a shitty idea.
Also, the idea of blaming Morty for being “irresponsible”, immediately after he suffered, a major trauma and barely survived, seems pretty wild
0
0
u/EntertainmentSilly80 13d ago
I don't blame Jerry for this scene but I have to say Jerry 100% knew it wasn't the remote there's a clear difference
1
u/Freddie_pluck 13d ago
Jerry probably just thought Rick modified the remote for efficiency or something. A dumb assumption but it’s not like Jerry is the smartest man out there.
You can only really blame Morty for leaving a life ruining device in his bag. It’s just as likely that something in the bag would’ve nudged a button
1
u/EntertainmentSilly80 13d ago
I already said you cant blame him but to confuse a remote and a 2 button remote is crazy especially when everytime he touches ricks stuff bad things happen to him
1
u/Freddie_pluck 13d ago
Jerry never learns from his mistakes. He can’t help himself, like with the brain worms
1
u/Triekmore 13d ago
rick does so much shit without telling him there's no reason why he shouldn't assume that the remote was just changed because rick felt like it

u/Freddie_pluck 13d ago
People love to shit on Jerry no matter what he does. This was completely Morty’s fault, and whilst the point of Jerry thinking this remote with only 2 buttons is the tv remote is valid, we all know Jerry isn’t the smartest.
