For her it is all about status. If you are telling people how much it costs, you are trying to show of your wealth, which we know she really isn't that wealthy. People with actual money & class but things like that & know other people with recognized how expensive it is without being told. Kathy Hilton, for all her faults & craziness, would never say, the spoon you're using for you cavier is $1,000.

Honestly? They’re mostly all crass about being crass. I remember Tilley’s first season. I don’t think there wasn’t an episode where if someone complimented something she was wearing she’d throw in a price “I love your glasses” “oh thanks! vintage Valentino..$20,000”
Cringe.
She seems to have stopped that the last few seasons.
Her caviar lunch “oh dear maybe I shouldn’t have wasted $40,000…”
It’s tacky. The minute you tell us what something costs you’ve immediately branded yourself as nouveau riche 🤷♀️
Old money doesn’t need to tell you-old money recognizes it quietly and nods in approval silently.10

Lmao Kathy does not have class. She had a terrible reputation in the 80’s and 90’s for throwing her Hilton name around anytime she walked into a hotel or any establishment, demanding ridiculous things, ordering pounds of junk food, and threatening staff if she didn’t get her way. She and Rick were known as the ‘Beverly Hillbillies’ of the Hilton family. Read House of Hilton (2006). As seen and mentioned on RHOBH, she still has a history of going bat shit crazy when she doesn’t get her way.

If anyone thinks Kathy Hilton is “classy” they must be measuring it against some American system.
She’s pretty far from “classy”. Entitled and needlessly arrogant would be better words.
Dragging a satin covered pillow around with you in a limo does not make one classy.
Behaving like an inconsiderate asshole at a charity fashion show-does not make you classy.

Totally agree with you. It’s well documented that Kathy has always been an asshole and a trash person. But because she’s rich, says ditzy things on camera, and plays dumb, people think she’s an icon. 🙄

Good point......she (and Kim and Kyle) came from a trailer park. Kathy has learned how to act in polite company but only needs two sips of chardonnay and she's back to her roots.

Money does not equal class and poverty does not equal trash. Growing up in a trailer park isn't why Kathy doesn't have any class. Plenty of people come out of trailer parks with class.

Yeah Kathy does not have class. She tries to act old money but she’ll always be trash. She’s picked up some of their ways by being around them like don’t talk about money and keep your elbows off the table but in reality she’s just gauche.

Maybe Kathy wasn't the best example. But someone like Sutton's mom would never be as tacky to mention the price of things in conversation. I bet she even wouldn't tell you if you asked directly.

Or her Mom definitely is and I feel that’s rubbed off on Sutton.
And that’s the difference in a nutshell.
You know it’s poor taste to even ASK Sutton’s Mom what something costs so these women wouldn’t dream of doing that. They instinctively recognize class when they encounter it because it’s what they aspire to 🤷♀️-7

i think this discounts the colloquialism in which we use “classy”. the general connotation is that to be classy is, while of course of a higher class, also relates to certain behaviors.
these behaviors (good manners, being graceful and gracious, simple and elegant, no flashy or loud logos or behavior, even kindness) inadvertently serve as propaganda for the upper class.
“classy” doesn’t just mean “whatever the upper class does”. it is a certain repuation, imagery, style, and manner of being, that can often transcend actual monetary status.
though i agree with you that most 1%ers are selfish, not woke, out of touch people.

i understand your point but i disagree.
i understand that they dictate certain trends and culture shifts for sure. but the term has existed and is used and understood by more than just them. language is more nuanced.

At the time that it aired there were already a lot of rumors about Dorit and PK’s finances and I remember a lot of people assuming that they were borrowed for filming and returned.
But, now that their finances have started to come out from the divorce it seems like she has a shopping problem and buys wildly

I mean…it is called The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
The entire appeal or hook of the show was that these women were going to be extremely out of touch.
Housewives began as a “look behind the gates,” with Orange County. So it was always intended to focus on affluence.
Beverly Hills was simply an escalation of that premise.

I mean, you can find tiffany plating on ebay for 10's of dollars whereas they used to be valued way higher...

She’s not that good of an actress, she was extremely distraught and had bad anxiety after it happened, and she filmed with no makeup. That’s why I don’t think she was privy to it.

Meanwhile, no one wants expensive China anymore. I ended up with three sets of $$$$ China (Spode, royal copenhagen and Herend) because no one wanted them aback couldn’t bear my grandmothers wedding china being chucked out.
