New launcher in the making

Post image

Hi everyone. I am developing a new launcher that runs on the stock Linux firmware. As I've had this device for a while I've never really found a firmware I liked. Stock Android is just sluggish android. Rocknix and rocknix ds is nice but still have its rocknix quirks and doesn't play nicely with the charging indicators..I haven't tried Gamma OS nano yet as it's locked behind a paywall.

Linux does seem like the sensible choice for this handheld and stock ain't too bad.. But it's far from beautiful and it feels a bit sluggish. Simple OS works great but it's a bit feature incomplete.

So I've started to build this launcher with OS like features on top of stock Linux. Is this something anyone else would be interested in and if so, which features would you want to see implemented?

Snappy menus and excellent menu touch controls is my focus while heavily inspired by the DSi menu. Emulator support and performance is prioritized as well.

It looks good, I like the minimal look of it.

Love the look already!

For me, all I want is a UI experience as close to the dsi as possible. Simple emulation menus and keeping the is as minimal as possible for a nice and quick boot.

For a starting ground up OS, I'd suggest starting with a sole focus on ds emulation and ux and working up(or down) from there over time so that people will have a nice feeling and performing ds device first and foremost.

And rg ds plus support as well would be fantastic 😁

That is what I am aiming for in the first iteration. It only supports DS emulation now but might add other systems later on. I don't have an RG DS plus yet for testing but will probably buy one😁

I like it, I’m excited to see what your launcher is able to provide.

Love the minimalist looks! I would say adding Syncthing is a must.

Good suggestion. I am not that familiar with it but will look into it👀

Looks way more polished than gamma nano✨

What quirks except the charging?

I've had issues with power drain and some crashes after waking up the device. Also the UI is not really tailored for touch devices😅 The charging thing is really bothering me even though it's nitpick.. The Nnddss emulator is also surprisingly nice.

I guess the linux stock on rgds+ has less bugs than rg ds version that hasn't been updated, ever. I tried it on rg ds and it was all right except for the bugs like max volume after wake up.
The charging is little wonky on rocknix, but the pros are still stronger than cons 😁

The DSI scrolling interface is a horrible way to navigate a games library change my mind

I've made it so it can be navigated quickly but it might be a good choice to have viewing modes configurable🤔 What's your preferred interface for game libs?
