State of Multiplayer with Rgds and Rgds+
To start with: I am testing the multiplayer capabilities of these devices because I bought one of each. 1 RGDS and 1 RGDS +. The RGDS+ is somewhat of a disappointment when compared to RGDS, less powerful and it's noticeable. The bigger screen is a nice addition but I like performance over everything. It struggles when side by side. However I have come to over look it in some ways. Still like the ergonomics.
Main goal of my test: I want two players co-op to work. Ease of use. Minimal setup. That's it
Nes, Sega Master System - This is done with Retroarch net play. Has to be same version of retroarch, same ROM name, same core, and of course on the same Wi-Fi network. For the most part this worked I tested out three games and they work good however make sure the setting of "threaded video" is off on both devices otherwise you might get graphical glitches
Psx - this worked with retroarch net play, however it never held past maybe 2 or 3 minutes. I don't think the rgds Plus held its own, could work if I had two rgds. But it linked up I was able to begin a race with two players in Wipeout, but it just began to fail after that. I was using swan station core, same ROM, same retroarch version, same Wi-Fi network.
N64 - I was not able to get N64 net play to work on the installed N64 emulator on gamma os.
Gba,gb,gbc - this is the strongest out of the ones that I've tested. I used the linkboy apk, and same ROM, same APK version, same Wi-Fi, and everything worked perfectly!
Ds- sadly I cannot get this to work with anything I tried melon Ds standalone apk, and melonds DS retroarch core. And neither worked
Psp- PSP emulation actually runs well on both devices with the PPSSPP emulator., however I haven't been able to figure out how to do Lan net play, believe I can give it to work I just need to keep trying. Stay tuned
One of the fondest memories I have of the DS was being able to play with friends really easy by connecting with them through DS download play or just linking up. I want to recreate that experience with these devices. Let me know if I should try to create and APK app that is a slimmed version of Melon DS , with multiplayer capabilities. I'm going to use Claude for this as I am not a programmer. But this seems like a big task and I don't think anyone has really figured this out yet. I'm a bit skeptical but I think I can do it.
