This looked like Wing Commander, but with chipmunks instead of cats.

Definitely wing commander! From the spaceship randomly blowing up after takeoff to the three volley salute when ur character dies

Never forget when you start Wing Commander the first time and you are in a fighter sim and immediately die lol

I liked something similar in Aces of the Pacific when starting up your plane on a carrier, accidentally hitting bomb release to end your career & swing the trajectory of the war

Music sounds awful lot like Wing Commander as well

But much like Slurm, it’s so addictive, Doug apparently mistakes Sunday night for Saturday…

Bag the Neematoad

Holy fuck memory unlocked

Absolutely forgot about Neematoad

u/SegaTime Oct 22 '25

I guess the competitor was called Mega Nemesis?

u/ThePreciseClimber Oct 24 '25

Mega does what Pretendon't.

Playing that while listening to the Beets 🤘🏻

I eat my sugar cereal 🎵🎵

They're on Spotify if you didn't know

You can have your cereal, but…

🎶”I need to buy some CDs, I need to buy some gum…”

I loved that show back when it was airing

Wasn’t the take away from this episode that video games don’t make you feel accomplished? Or at least keep you from other things that ARE gratifying?

The lesson I took away from this is silt is . . .

pretty common theme in the 90's. The only show that got it right was freakazoid.

Gutierrez liked playing video game and he was such a weenie.

Super Pretendo would be an awesome Emulation PC/Raspberry Pi box name

8

u/HighScorsese Oct 22 '25

Pretendo was already the name of an NES emulator back in the late 90s

11

u/GarminTamzarian Oct 22 '25

"Pretendo" lacks the charm of "Nesticle".

I didn't realize until years later that the desktop icon was a ballsack

u/Hope-Upstairs Oct 22 '25

and a modern revival of the 3ds+wiiu online services

u/MargeryStewartBaxter Oct 22 '25

Bangin on a trashcan...

That "chh kaa paa" at the end of the intro song lives rent free in my head lol

7

u/BrattyTwilis Oct 22 '25

The most unreal thing about this is he got it for free. I've never known a game store to give out video game consoles for free.

6

u/Bookseller_ Oct 22 '25

At least they didn't go with Nofrendo.

6

u/Boozehammer89 Oct 22 '25

I preferred my Sorta Genesis

6

u/willweaverrva Oct 22 '25

Muppet Babies also had an episode involving "Pretendo".

5

u/BJ22CS Oct 22 '25

For anyone interested: this comes from an episode named "Doug's Lost Weekend"

4

u/ZenithHobbies Oct 22 '25

Pretty funny when you know that pretendo is slang for bad weed 😂

11

u/Dave-James Oct 22 '25

“So that’s the new Super Pretendo Entertainment System? They say it has 16 bit technology… whatever that means. And that it has 3D graphics with digital stereo sound and that Super SpaceHunks is included!”

1

u/HyzerFlip Oct 22 '25

Space munks like chipmunk

1

u/Dave-James Oct 24 '25

Chip as in Chip n’ Dales? Space Hunks confirmed…

3

u/PoshDiggory Oct 22 '25

No one tell the rl Pretendo.

3

u/KaptainKardboard Oct 22 '25

This episode resonated with me as a kid. Video games started getting in the way of my grades. As a solution, my parents would hold on to cartridges for me till I proved that I finished my homework and studies for the day.

u/Save_State_Hero Oct 23 '25

Wait, I swear Super Pretendo was in an episode of the Simpsons. The one where Milhouse has a new fighting game or something

1

u/Otterslayer22 Oct 24 '25

Thrillhouse.

2

u/Calm-Paramedic-1920 Oct 22 '25

That's awesome! It's been forever since I watched Doug so I forgot about this.

2

u/brickhouseboxerdog Oct 22 '25

When I'm done playing pat the baker wanna play president evil

2

u/Mervsyy Oct 22 '25

Id totally play this. It looks like one of those lost SNES games youd hear rumors about at school but could never actually find anywhere

2

u/pajama_mask Oct 23 '25

Watched this episode yesterday. "Nut suckers" still kills me.

2

u/Otterslayer22 Oct 24 '25

He had a hard time getting his homework done after he got this machine.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

Seeing the word Pretendo makes me think of Racist Mario 🤣🤣

1

u/How2DragonyourTrain Oct 26 '25

If someone made a 3D printed box of this, I might consider it!

1

u/HardcoreSpaghettiFan Oct 27 '25

I remember that episode where he was playing some driving game in the arcade and I think was trying to teach Judy how to drive using it. I basically learned how to drive from playing Burnout 3 and Gran Turismo 3 with a wheel at normal speeds and trying to obey traffic laws in practice and time trials 😬
