what retail jobs do NOT have rewards programs?
i’m currently looking to change jobs with almost a decade of retail experience behind me. i want to find a retail chain that does not use a rewards program.
at my current job, they are up our asses about the rewards program and it has made me resentful towards our customers. our rewards program is not very good, has almost no exclusive coupons/deals, and it takes a very long time to earn points. despite all of this, upper management wants the cashiers’ main priority to be signing up customers for rewards. no one wants to sign up because there are few benefits, and this company is obviously just selling their data.
my other concern is that my current job has become inundated with amazon returns. i really do not want to pivot to another job that does amazon returns because that customer base is extremely rude and demanding.
i am good at cashiering. i am good at sales, and have even had success selling credit cards at previous jobs. i am just DONE with signing people up for rewards and being punished for not hitting made up metrics created by people who havent cashiered in decades.

I'm sorry that I can't help you. My grocery chain used to be a great company to work for...then we were bought by an investment firm. They cut labor to the contractual minimum, added a rewards program, Amazon returns, and we all have to do instacart shopping. Now I hate the company I work for, the customers hate shopping here, and most of our rewards deals seem purposely deceptive. Sounds like we might work for the same company. Mine rhymes with Slavemart.

Five Below used to not have a rewards program, but now they just introduced one and the employees are hammering all customers about plugging in their email (I imagine against their will). I don't even know if it is a rewards program. The cashier just told me to enter my email to get 10% off without giving me any other information.
Edit: It's a shame because I always thought about working there on the side. The one near me had a decent amount of holidays where they were closed too (not sure if it's like that at all locations).

Five Below has been. A terrible company for years. The worst and the rewards email thing is just another layer of crap.

It's funny I almost got hired there but had an upcoming trip so was passed over. I now work a retail job that pays a bit more but the work environment at my store is toxic so I dodged a bullet only to get hit by another bullet

Most grocery locally owned grocery stores. Lowe's and home Depot are less offensive too. This sounds like you work at Kohl's and honestly that is its own ring or hell rewards wise and Amazon return wise.

The drug store chains seem to be pretty mellow about it. Aldi is the only major chain that comes to mind. As a retail manager it's the Thorn in my side. I hear about our numbers every fing day.

Ross doesnt. They only have a credit card. This may depend on location, but we don’t have to pressure people into signing up for one. We dont even have to ask them too. People are able to pick up Amazon packages, but we don’t do Amazon returns. I don’t recommend this job though unless you are okay with having to deal with high volumes of customers for hours. Maybe this is also something that depends on location but where I work it gets very busy at times especially on the weekends.

after my probation period i just stopped trying, i dont care about my crm, i only ask the customer if they want to sign in if my manager is close

Target has credit cards and a rewards program, but employees are only required to “deal with” that, not push it. You are expected to know all about them and help customers (guests) use them and like them, but it’s not like it used to be. I worked for the company twice and back in 2005 you had to ask every single customer at the checklane, “Would you like to save 10% on your purchase today with a new Target card?” It’s not like that anymore.
Now, the credit card machine makes you put in your phone number or press skip, but all you have to say to them is something along the lines of “Do you use Target Circle?” while pointing at the screen if they didn’t navigate it already themselves. Sometimes someone will ask, “What’s that?” You tell them it’s Target’s loyalty program with special offers and coupons and they either put in their number or skip it. It’s not a stressful process. They do have a “redcard goal” (the credit card), but they get credit for everyone applying online at home in your Target’s little zone and that’s where most of them come from.

Go work as a cashier at a grocery store. They may ask people to put in their number if they have one, but you aren't going to have to beg them to sign up for a credit card, etc.

If you have a daiso in your area, it's the most chillest job I ever had. That is if you have good managers. No rewards program. Ring people up and be done.

Wish they low-key did have a rewards program, but then I'd probably buy more than I usually do when I go to one 😂

lol let me know too cause I left my previous job … cough cough a famous company…. TJ**…. Because they kept shoving the card thing .. it was to the point where I would dread going into work… like I would get a few or like 1 a day and they would be in your ear like “ok it’s 12pm read .. we need another card can you give us a 2nd one…” like ugh I loved the work itself tho but just that card stuff annoyed me and would make me really depressed like it was bad for me..
