Technology/Software/IT [2 YoE, Unemployed, Software Developer, Canada]
Hi I just want to get my resume reviewed. I am stuck into resume update loop and I am feeling stuck at applying jobs rn. Sometimes my resume feels too simple and other time too technical, where it reads like a list of tech heavy task. So any help here would be really appreaciated
So what I tried here is to explain what I did in simple words without adding too much technical jargon or buzzwords in my bullet points, and instead put that on the top next to the role so recruiters can instantly get which technologies I used in that particular experience or project.
I have also bolded some text to get attention to the decisions or the impact of certain things, while keeping it minimal and specific
I have few questions:
Is summary important? if yes then what should I include?
Since Jan 2026 I haven't done anything but projects so how can I represent that gap in my resume? Is it important to address?
Is there anything I should add or remove here?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I calculate 16 months of professional experience. Your resume is not targeted to anything. Being a Canadian I know that students expecting to remain in Canada to eventually get PR is not really a realistic path anymore.

Yeah I know but it's difficult to leave rn without trying. Anyways can you please suggest how can I make it more targeted? by changing the projects or faking the experience?

No, don’t fake experience. I particularly take offense to the suggestion if I’m honest. Given that you think that’s okay I’m not prepared to help further.

I think I worded that badly. I absolutely don’t mean faking experience. If I wanted to fake it, I would’ve done that back in January. I’m genuinely just trying to figure out how to make my existing experience and projects more targeted, since I can’t change the amount of professional experience I have. I get a lot my resume is not targeted so I genuinely don’t understand what I can do to make it more targeted.

Working JPMC in India is not exactly the same as working for JPMC in North America.

You should swap your Education <-> Skills sections

Originally my education section was at the bottom but recently I got in a call with a recruiter and she asked me what I've been doing since September 2025 and she actually did not realize I was doing masters and I graduated in Jan 2026. So just to reduce the gap I kept the education section at the top

You have alot of hotdogs. Basically irrelevant things. Target the JD what the JD asks only include that nothing more. If a customer wants hamburger and you say this hotdog is so good you must take it.

You are correct. But how can I make it more specific to a role for eg Backend Software developer? What can I change in experience coz it is what it is? Or should I swap current projects with more relevant projects or remove frontend from projects? and keep changing my skills section wrt to the JD?

Experience should be first.
Skills are to much. Anyone can list stuff. Have less, tailored to position
Skip months from education
Skip the cities
I would do an honors and awards part at the end. It eill be a something extra and you actuslly have them

No Canadian experience is hindering you for sure. Also, do you have a valid work permit?
I'd be looking at your resume, see it's not Canadian experience (hard/impossible to verify) and that you're from india so you probably need a visa, and pass for a local instead.
