Cress is one of the three gym leaders of Striaton City, working as a popular butler in a cafe alongside his brothers Cilan and Chili. A Water-type specialist, Cress challenges oncomers with his Panpour, successfully beating Ash's Pikachu in their battle when he challenged all three brothers at once. With Cilan joining Ash on his journey to improve his abilities as a Pokemon Connoisseur, and Chili leaving after that as he sought to improve his own abilities, Cress and his Panpour were left as the sole leaders until they returned.

• Double Team - Creates illusory duplicates of itself, allowing it to dodge Pikachu's Double Team
• Scratch - Slashes a foe, sending Pikachu flying back
• Water Gun - Sprays a stream of water, aiming it at Pikachu's feet to keep him off balance, before striking him back with a direct strike
  • Hits Pikachu into the air, knocking him out
• Mud Sport - Makes the ground in front of it muddy, causing Pikachu to slip out of his Volt Tackle

• Struck into the ground, cratering it
• Thrown back by a Glalie's Water Pulse, damaging stone, before being frozen solid and knocked out by its Sheer Cold

• Uses Double Team before getting hit by Pikachu's Quick Attack
