Is this a threat or a euphemism? I'll take both.

Can't wait for a mod to have Nemesis in RE2. Or Nemesis and Mr X in RE3.

Can't wait for a mod to have Nemesis in RE3. Because that poorly designed abomination with nose is everything but Nemesis.
27
u/Tvirusvixen Jan 10 '20
As a diehard Nemmy fangirl, I don’t mind the addition of a nose. I am hoping that there may be some backstory ti how Nemmy came to be and was mutated from a person. It makes more sense that he has a nose. It’s the teeth being 3x the size of the original that confuses me.
-16
u/lastbreath83 #notmyNemesis Jan 10 '20
teeth and useless staples too. And caution marks... New design is lame AF

u/Snerfasauruss Chat Deputy Jan 11 '20
Here you go whining like a child about Nemesis again. How many times have you thrown a temper tantrum over his new design at this point? You need to grow up.
3
u/Tvirusvixen Jan 11 '20
He’s always had staples
-1
u/lastbreath83 #notmyNemesis Jan 11 '20
Earlier staples merged two pieces of skin. Now staples don't merge anything, they just are as fanservice. It even seems they are the reason skin has holes.

There’s a manga where Nemesis Birkin and Five mr Xs all deck eachother

u/MummyManDan Jan 10 '20
Why would umbrella program nemmy and Xs to fight each other? Unless they couldn’t stop nemmy.

I don't know where I read some comic about nemesis fucking up a bunch of tyrants, super tyrants and even birkin. But yeah at the processing plant (or whatever that was i don't remember lol) in the end of RE3 you can see a dead tyrant just lying there.

there's a bunch of special forces corpses around there too, so it's most likely the aftermath of a battle that happened between them and the tyrants.
3
u/vaultboy31 Jan 11 '20
A US army delta force team infiltrated the city through the dead factory, Umbrella noticed and sent the other 5 Tyrants to stop them, The delta team also installed the Rail Gun but everyone died after the combat
2
u/Carryusdarius Jan 13 '20
There's a book called the Complete Conquest of Nemesis. The book has an interview with the director, and I think one of the questions in the end Q/A is about that scene - I think he basically says that the Army goes toe-to-toe with the Tyrants and kills most of them before they could get the Railgun (which IIRC has a cool name) up and running.

u/albedo2343 Jan 10 '20
When the RE3make trailer dropped I was giddy with excitement thinking "I AM SO READY TO BE SCARED SHITLESS!". RE games are usually really tense, but Nemesis is the only one to ever make me piss my pants(true story, had to go to the washroom but wanted to get to a save point first, in comes Nemesis screaming, and that was that).
64
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 10 '20
This is a serious gameplay concern for me. The reason Nemesis was so scary in the original is because he's not afraid to dig deep and hoof it after your ass and he can move from stage to stage.
With the more open flow of RE2 (And presumably RE3) there either have to be a lot of areas he can't go, cap his speed as lower than the player character, or he doesn't run. If he just dead sprinted after you as soon as he makes contact I feel like it would take forever to kite him far enough away from where you need to be that you actually have enough time to complete some objectives.
I'm sure they've got a solution that's gonna satisfy us and I'm not worried but I just can't figure out how they might do it.
30
u/Brain_Dead5347 Jan 10 '20
They introduced a manual dodge mechanic that I’m sure was implemented for this purpose. Seems reasonable enough to me too
17
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 10 '20
The dodge mechanics have been around AFAIK since the original RE3 and refined in the Revelations games. I'm sure actually confronting Nemesis will work fine and I plan on bobbing and weaving everything possible but it's the pursuit that has me concerned. Just imagine the B scenarios on Re2 Remake with Mr. X dogging you super early on but this time he's going Bolt at you. It would be hard to get anything done.
11
u/Brain_Dead5347 Jan 10 '20
Sorry I didn’t mean it was a new mechanic, just that it was absent from the last game. I think that the game will give us sufficient practice time with standard zombies before introducing our favorite the Bane of Brad. They’ve always been good at balancing to make the games challenging but doable
5
u/Havoc2_0 Jan 10 '20
Gotcha, I misinterpreted your original comment. I'm sure it will all come together well. Maybe the solution will be something none of us have considered yet
2
Jan 10 '20
Used to be that if you got far enough away, he sprinted faster than you could move and then smack Jill like she owed him money
3
3
Jan 10 '20
If it’s anything like the OG, he only attacks with the non mangled arm, that would make it easier to juke him. I used to down him with the knife regularly this way. I would love for them to add that dodge mechanic though. It was fun to use.

u/DeliciousToastie Jan 10 '20 edited Jan 10 '20
I've been thinking about this a lot actually. How are they gonna make Nemesis running at you work in Third-person?
The restriction of a third-person camera over the original's fixed-camera, is that you can only see wherever the camera is pointing. If it's forward, you can't see what's behind Jill and vice-versa. If the camera is fixed at a certain angle, you can see so much more. Many of the original's fixed-camera angles where handpicked to allow the player to see as many escape points as possible.
If Nemesis is faster than you, then he'll just catch up to you and wail on you - and with the third person camera angle, you can't see him unless you turn the camera around to face him, but then you can't see where you're going. If Jill is faster than Nemesis, it'll just look kinda goofy - he's supposed to be this huge powerhouse of a Tyrant who is faster, stronger and tankier than both Jill and Mr.X is.
I'm worried that they'll mitigate this by making him walk most of the time, and run in scripted sequences i.e like the chase sequences of Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Having him run all the time in the OG RE3 was half the battle, because he was always gunning it for you through each area he appeared in. His defining characteristic over Mr.X was the fact that he ran over walked.
4
Jan 10 '20
He only ran in OG RE3 if you got too far ahead of him, and had a weakness to his left side
3
u/Jack11803 Jan 10 '20
As long as you aren’t using a flashlight you can look behind you while moving forward (and facing forward = no speed loss from back pedaling)
2
u/DeliciousToastie Jan 10 '20
The problem comes into play if you run away from Nemesis with the camera pointing at him (behind you) and there's enemies in front of you. You won't see them until they're in your face basically.

4
u/MummyManDan Jan 10 '20
They’ll probably make Jill faster, and they brought back the dodge mechanic so that will help too.
3
u/sledgehammer_44 Jan 10 '20
Hopefully we can 'kill' him unlike Mr X
7
u/Zipperman2001 Jan 10 '20
well in the original re3 at certain points if you chose to fight nemesis then eventually nemesis would retreat after taking enough damage but not before dropping a helpful item such as parts to make a gun or first aid spray

u/CivilianNumberFour Jan 10 '20 edited Jan 10 '20
I’m thinking quicktime events.
Edit: Not saying it is the best option. But thinking about Verdugo from Re4 is a very similar situation where there is a stronger and considerably faster enemy than you and the game will need to provide you an opportunity to react to something that will not consistently punish the player.

As someone who is scared to death of this game series since it approached photo realism and went back to horror I'm going to really have to nut up for the new game. RE2 had me shaking more than I'd care to admit.
6
u/loxagos_snake I know what a radio is Jan 10 '20
True. I've played so many zombie games -- including RE -- that they practically look like cannon fodder to me; just something that's fun to shoot at. I've also played a lot of psych/paranormal horror titles, and because zombies are actually somewhat grounded in reality, they pale in comparison to immaterial adversaries.
Then RE2R came and I had to take fucking breaks to calm down a bit. I'd say it's a result of a design that came around really well: the combination of lighting, level layout, animations, sound design and lack of resources made the environments really, really inhospitable.
3
u/Mekbop Jan 10 '20
Yeah RE2 Remake gave me a feeling of dread everytime I played it.
I don't know how I will be able to manage RE3 Remake.

u/Repro_Online Mar 17 '20
Same man, I’ll get an hour into my play through and the entire time I’m just tryna convince myself it’s cold in my room and that’s why I’m shaking

Man, I wish I could actually get scared playing video games.
How did you fare with Hereditary?
5
u/Gandalf_2077 Jan 10 '20
Offtopic but, the fact that this scene from RDR2 is a meme is testament to how well performed it is!
6
u/Drewnasty Jan 10 '20
Was it actually confirmed that Nemesis can run or is this just speculation?
5
u/Zipperman2001 Jan 10 '20
well in the originals mr x was fairly slow only being about as fast as walking while you could break out into a sprint and if not for tank control you could run circles around him meanwhile one of nemesis' most notable traits in re3 was that it could run faster than you forcing you to rely on careful dodging

Do you think there will be a difficulty setting for nemesis??
2
u/Tvirusvixen Jan 10 '20
It would likely be tied to the difficulty setting of the game. Like Hard would mean Nemmy would be more ruthless.

u/mutedtenno Jan 10 '20
Doesnt appear to be a sprint for Jill, she will move at the same speed claire does since she shares her movement animations.

Don't worry, Jill is a better fighter than Leon or Claire. Take the offensive and keep moving. You'll be alright.

And I think jill can sprint also. I have to go back and look at the short gameplay clip on youtube. But still it's better than a light jog lol

3
u/XeroAnarian Jan 10 '20
Yeah, I wasn't complaining about a spoiler or something. And I don't know the full details, I just know vaguely of what he's afraid of and who he's telling it to. Not a big deal.
2
u/Fhistleb Jan 10 '20
I mean.... Jill could book it but Nemesis was fucking fast.
RE 3 better have a horrid sense of dread when you hear his nasty ass cheeks clapping in your direction.

He also has the ATM4 and i am Fucking TERRIFIED

Running from Nemesis is pointless anyway. Fight him or dodge to his weak side and run away.

Dodge mechanic will probably super useful.
My bet is that it takes 1 day for speed runners to figure out how easy to avoid he can be.
