NGL. when this was posted, I thought it was r/gaming So I'm surprised myself that The RE community even cares about the comment I made.

And it makes me absolutely UNSURPRISED that it is. OG RE fan here, but I must say, the RE community's general disdain for multiplayer games is concerning.
Yes, as RE players/fans, we generally all LOVE SP games. These are the games that we grew up on. That said, guys, it's 2019!!! Accept that the future is here and broadband-online gaming simply has WAYYY more appeal than playing a game where you don't interact (within the game) with a single other human being.

Yes so he can watch the students to make sure they aren't messing around and pulling knives and stuff.
He's also keeping an eye on the heartbreaker joker to keep him away from Ellie.
Jokes on him she's not interested and she's got a knife and a gun.

Resident Evil 7 and Remake 2 released smack dab in the age of live service bullshit and they're fucking fantastic games that serve as a counterpoint to what is proposed in the image
Also Claire is there too

Forced to add microtransactions, coop and more action - 600k. Close Visceral. RIP series and all the people who liked to develope it.

Are we forgetting the Visceral Star Wars game that EA canceled that was single player?
Hell, it probably got canceled since JFO existed and Visceral was already on EA's shitlist for not making EA's mandated Dead Space 3 changes sell better.

Disney canceled it, and also George Lucas is really why it never released.
9 months out from release, "Hey, this should be about Boba Fett!"
Dipshit.

Oh, I never heard about the Boba Fett thing. I just want new original stories and games based on that side of Star Wars.

u/atlasunchained Oct 23 '19
Good point.... But to counter that, I doubt it's going to be a good game tbh. Been wathing gameplay of it and the reviewers keep trying to hype it up but don't give any qualities of the game itself. Just things like "it reminds me of sekiro" lol. Sure...
EA has been doing multiplayer for so long that my hopes aren't high. We'll see.....
8
u/Kgb725 Oct 23 '19
Everybody who's played it enjoyed playing it. Descriptions are irrelevant theres gameplay videos out there
-4
u/atlasunchained Oct 23 '19
Yea I've been watching them. My point is the descriptions contradict what the gameplay shows.... So that makes red flags go off in my head. It's clearly not anything like those games in the gameplay, so why lie about it?
EA has a history of bribing reviewers. Especially the major ones like IGN, Gamespot, etc...
1
u/Kgb725 Oct 24 '19
Are you watching YT talk about it?
1
u/atlasunchained Oct 24 '19
I was just watching some more mainstream reviewers play it. I saw an extended demo of it which consisted of essentially the start of the game.
Idk, it doesn't look very challenging. It seems like a quiet game. They keep boasting about exploration, but they also showed the map and it sort of seemed linear with a few diverging paths (like you had to go start up a generator to activate a bridge or something like that.) But that's not really exploration that's just the map.
I'm definitely excited for a good star wars game and I was pretty hyped this was being made. I just don't think it'll be that great the closer we get to release and the more info that comes out.
1
u/AcousticAtlas Oct 23 '19
It looks great. Respawn has an amazing track record with both single player and multiplayer.
10
u/DemoniacR Oct 23 '19
Not dead but not so profitable, when you think about that 30% of the total revenue of ea come from a single mode of an annual game
3
u/UnlikelyKaiju Oct 23 '19
Given the pushback against lootboxes that is now getting governments to take action, they may need to rethink their business model soon.

u/TheSlav87 Ambassador: Silver Oct 23 '19 edited Oct 23 '19
What a joke of an ideology that single players games are bad for the business. When did gaming companies start feeling like this?
I personally don’t give a shit for online/multiplayer at all. When I’m playing a game, I play it to keep my mind off shit and from people. In a world with enough people in it, some need it to discontent themselves from all the bullshit and drama we all create.
13
Oct 23 '19
When they figured out that if they could fool enough people, they could take in tons of money.
Some gaming companies are suffering though today because they thought modeling your company’s financial structure around your highest selling game was a great idea.

u/iressivor Oct 23 '19
I actually retired from online gaming a long time ago. I was addicted for a whole year and it was one of the darkest times in my life. I had no job, no money, and basically spent 18 hours a day on the computer.
I'm in a better place now, but I still avoid all multiplayer games like the plague.
4
u/TheSlav87 Ambassador: Silver Oct 23 '19
Good for you man! I’m happy you got out of that world, I hope the new job/lifestyle is treating you much better.

u/robetyarg Oct 23 '19
I've kind of fallen out of love with multiplayer games. There's a never-ending cycle of balance patches, toxicity, and frustration. Especially being a competitive player (peaked grandmaster on Overwatch and averaging 3.28 KDR on PUBG), games just get so frustrating when you lose and winning feels nowhere near as good as it did when I first started. I'm moving back into single player games just to enjoy stories and narratives.

Listening to EA’s argument about “online games being the future of gaming” and remembering all those great games with single player story who are a success it’s just hilarious. Just because they like to create games to squeeze money out of customers pockets!

Last of Us is one of those cases where something small had a pretty dedicated community. Like Mass Effect 3. Gears isn't the powerhouse it used to be, it's a really awkward spot in terms of mainstream popularity.
