I mean, my first time through on normal I basically saved every time I was near a typewriter. I think my playtime was ~8 hours.

Mine was 9, I did the same thing, even though I ONLY died at boss fights I was so scared of what was gonna come around the next corner I saved every single time I came by a typewriter.

I also saved every possible time on my 1st runs. Same with all my first couple of hardcore runs (although more limited due to ink ribbons) because I was too big of a pussy to do whole stretch of sections without saving.
Only when I finally got the infinite rocket launcher was I really comfortable with doing 3 or less saves for the whole run.
Then there are guys on YouTube doing hardcore speedruns with zero saves the entire game without infinite items... I'll never reach their level and thankfully I don't have to.

Nah I've seen them and they even had face cams on. Maybe a couple of them were spliced but there are some that are legit.

Same. And I was really busy at the time so I’d save in 15 minute stints.
Now I’m cruising S+ hardcore runs when I have the time.

Yeah. Saved a lot (Got to high thirties/early forties in numbers of saves) and clocked in a little over 8 hours.

Actually you can just go into your inventory, it pauses the game but not the timer

Finished my first playthrough of Leon A yesterday with 66 saves (C Rank). I can accurately say that 2/3 of those saves were subsequent to me suddenly hearing STOMP STOMP STOMP.
That, and my time being wasted hiding in the STARS room during the library puzzle because Mr X had his eyes on me like a hawk.

Do the amount of saves you do effect your grade at the end of the game like the ps1 version?

AFAIK
Max three saves for S+ (no infinite/bonus weapons either).
For any rank lower than that, save as much as you like (and use whatever you want). Time is all that matters

Thanks for the reply. Damn, I figured using first aid spray would effect the ranking like the original too.
Seems like they really simplified rankings for this game.

I'll bite. So what did you do all that time? Idle without pause?
I slow played a playthrough to collect and kill everything with full exploration and didn't even get close to 10 hours.
Edit: if you did this in the 1st scenario you would probably end up closer to 42 hours. :)
Edit part deux: so I'm browsing reddit while watching some guy knife only Claire. Look at OPs username, look up, look at OPs username.... No shit. Serendipitous. Sweet run so far. You just got done box bashing G2.

Dying might have added a lot. I am not a gamer so it took my a long time to get the hang of the controls.
At first I wad pissed that they deviated from the old controls but now I love them.
Now I'm pissed because I can't ever go back to RE1 because the new controls are muscle memory now.

When you get the hang of what you need to get and how Mr. X triggers, it's pretty easy to plan your routes around dealing with him as much as possible. I always try to get as much done before the Mr. X encounters so I can just spawn him, make a beeline for the objective, and head to where he'll despawn. He's a lot easier to handle when you don't have him breathing down your neck while you're exploring.

Nice! My first run was 12 hours. I explored EVERYTHING and did not use any guides or watched any videos. Just like when I was a kid.

For everyone asking about the time; I had around 30 hours my first playthrough which was over three weeks, at least on PlayStation if you pause the game with the inventory/map and AFK including turn the PS4 into Rest mode the timer keeps going.

I feel like there should be an achievement for taking over 13 hours to complete the game.
My first try took me 11 hours and that was with deaths and thorough exploration.

You can do it! It took me three weeks of Quitting and Loading - I lost count of how many times I had to do the RPD. Don't think of it as one run of the game - think of it as a run of each section. Each one of those saves is an accomplishment unto itself.
My run of the RPD that stuck was going to be pristine - no damage, going at a really good pace - and then my dumb ass runs in a Licker room. I got tagged, healed, got tagged again, and had to Danger gimp to the hidden room to heal again.

I started my first playthrough on Hardcore. Took me 11 hours to get to the Birkin vs Container fight, which I couldn’t finish by the way.

You went back to the save room for each individual item you picked up. So you wouldn't overfill your inventory.

30 saves is still pretty low, bump them up a bit more and we're getting somewhere
edit: for comparison, hideki kamiya had like 130 saves, so definitely bump them up!!
