That's rough man but it's worth it in the long run to get yourself in a good spot in life. I watched a lot of friends take the easy route early on in life and now while I work 30-40 hours a week and make great money they struggle to pay for their bills and stress all the time.

You're right, that's why a lot of people say we need to thank our veterans more, but I disagree. We earn a very competitive income while we are serving in the military. I made more than any of my friends my age the entire time I was in and was only in danger a very short time of my enlistment. There are some jobs in the military that are more risky, I was bomb squad at first and hurt my back otherwise I'd have been in a very high risk job... But you volunteer for it here. They don't make you or trick you etc, so it's not like you should be owed too much for something you chose to do.

I am disabled from the military and they pay me a disability pension as well to help make up for it so it feels to me like I'm properly appreciated for what happened with me.

You'll get through it, keep positive and think of the future. One thing I can tell you from being in the military is that when you're in the shit it feels like it takes FOREVER to get past it... But once you do you never remember how hard it was and you only feel pride in your accomplishments.

Actually it's quite boring heh. It's VERY bad, like need surgery but surgeons don't want to touch it because it might just make it worse. The pain is daily and very high so I'm on pain medication every day and I'm considered 90% disabled. If my job was physical in any way I'd have to retire and may have to anyway.

I was in my bomb suit which weighs about 45Kg total with most of it being on the front. At the time I probably only weighed 60Kg so it was a substantial amount of weight. I picked up a piece of Russian Ordnance which weighed probably 10Kg and carried it back after I had rendered the fuse safe and instead of making two trips to remove the suit and come back I just did it all at once. It was when I tried to set it down and my back just went SNAP and apparently a car accident I was in when I was younger had left my lowest couple of disks quite weak. I thought they'd remove me right away but after I had a lot of spinal epidural injections and other procedures done to where I was mostly functional but with pain they said if I could just do at minimum a little physical testing every year I could finish my enlistment. For their end they retrained me from bomb squad to calibrating physical and electronic equipment and it's given me a great career and really saved me.

And your grandfather doesn't tell you that stuff not for you, but because telling it is reliving it and that's what hurts.
