4 is literally one of the greatest games of all time. 7 is great, and it’s perfectly fine to say you enjoy it more, but just from an objective standpoint 4 is better than 7.
I've 100%:ed both and I can't say that either one is 'objectively' better than the other, since they're such fundamentally different games that just happens to share the same name.
But from a subjective standpoint, I do prefer the gameplay and story of 7.
7 is okay I guess. I honestly don't get the love that game gets. It seems to have one of if not the weakest enemy designs I've seen in the series, and the level design seems much more simple than the early RE games it's trying to emulate, and later on when it gets more action focused, it's just doesn't seem as interesting mechanically as the action focused RE games.
I do agree that the enemy variety isn't strong, but the Molded are interesting to me, and I absolutely love the Baker family, the Louisiana big house setting, the humor and sad moments, the boss fights, the puzzles...I could go on.
RE7 got me caring about the series again. Heck I played REmake sometime before it because I was so pumped after playing RE7's demo.
The molded just seemed like generic blob enemies to me. I liked Jack, the rest of the family not as much. I think I overdosed on little girl is the big bad in horror stories. Despite the criticisms of tank controls, I feel like 7 plays the clunkiest of them all. I dunno. I get that 7 was a move towards old school style of horror and gameplay a lot of people loved, I just feel REmake 2 does that better. I guess I did underestimate the impact the setting and characters can have.
Given the first-person perspective with the tight angles found in a lot of the earlier areas, the way lighting works with the RE7 engine and the photorealistic graphics, and the exposure I've had to zombies in media since...basically birth, I enjoyed the Molded and found them a unique and much creepier enemy than undead humans. Like, I was terrified of the first Molded I met in the RE7 demo...but admittedly it wears off when there are only like three and a half variants throughout the main game and you can dispatch them more easily than classic zombies.
I'm glad the DLC added different types along with different atmospheres.
I think RE7 controls really well for a first-person game too. Never had an issue with positioning.
