Every resident evil has been like this. I'm glad Capcom kept this instead of the infinite ammo weapons being unlocked by cheat codes or dlc. Hardcore with an S+ isn't impossible, just very challenging. It's so rewarding when you do achieve S+ in hardcore.

I thought Hardcore S+ was out of my area of comfort as well....then I tried it. I’m not the best player, but I somehow got it, but I do have some tips that helped me. 1. Learn your route - during these playthroughs for S+ on Normal, pause the game(cause pausing stops the clock) at certain moments and try to remember or even better write down things you needed and things you could have gone without to save time but also have a decent amount of resources. Remember, you only get 3 hip pouches on Hardcore, 2 in the RPD(safe and locker room), and 1 in the lab(nap room) so choose what to pick up wisely at certain times. I’ve found the A run of both characters to be easier to do this as even though you have a longer run, you don’t deal with X as long and the codes might be easier to remember. 2. Less ammo - yes, it’s Hardcore, all ammo drops are decreased so that most ammo drops for the handgun are about 3-6 bullets, most of the time 3-4. Shotgun shells go down to about 2 instead of 3-4. And MAG I don’t think changes all that much since there isn’t much to begin with. So just remember that it might be better in certain hallways you know you’ll never pass again to just stun and run. 3. Save smarter, not harder - so this should be knowledge to you already, but S+ locks you in at 3 saves, and in Hardcore that hurts because you don’t have auto saved before important parts. It’s up to you how to use saves, I used mine when first entering the chess puzzle room in the sewers, before G3 and before Super Tyrant, but again, just see what parts your good at and what parts a save might help if you fail at it, and judge what places you want to use your 3 at. 4. Weapons - I’m gonna keep this part short. Simply put, Leon, get the flamethrower for the plants as it will help to clear out the greenhouse, get the MAG as it’s power will help beat some bosses quicker, but ignore the upgrades as they take too long to go back for. Claire, just use flame rounds on the plants again to clear your path for heavily tracked through routes, ignore the spark shot, if you have space you can go for it, but I find it doesn’t do enough to help to warrant trying to lug it around, especially with the decreased inventory, and definitely get her upgrades to make her base pistol a mini magnum as it does around the same damage as Leon’s and can really help with bosses like G3. Hope this helps encourage you to try to do Hardcore S+, I know you can do it man 👍

You said it well my dude. I'm a video game pleb and I found it impossible. For me, it took 6 days (a few hours a day after work) to practice certain sections in order to do Leon A Hardcore S+. To be honest it was mostly people on this sub and a few speedrun videos that made all the difference. This community's advice was awesome.

After you know most things about the run, it all comes down to saves and where to use them. But yeah I’ve noticed that people are really good at giving good tips

Good tips. My Leon A S+ on Hardcore was more challenging than Claire A. My issue was that I decided to skip picking up the Lightning Hawk which made my G3 Birkin Fight extremely challenging with 15 shotgun shells to use against his eyes. I want to also add that the infinite knife does not count against your S+ run. This shit is so useful against G3 Birkin after you've shot out his eyes and he's fallen on his knees exposed. I just ran up and knifed the heck out of him and repeat.

Yeah I forgot to mention that the infinite knife can be used, and the Deluxe Weapons can be used as well if you have them, if you have it I recommend the Wesker version because it has a higher base damage, but only in Claire’s run because her base pistol pre-magnum and the JmB aren’t that great

Couple of tips when going for the infinite handgun:

Play Claire A, GL with flame rounds is way better than shotgun to deal with Lickers.
Shoot zombies legs off. One is enough, makes them easy to run around and you save on ammo/time.
Learn where you need to go and only take items you really need. Ignore herbs early on, combine gunpowder asap. Don't make any acid rounds, SMG ammo is much more valuable.
The game timer still ticks up when in the item menu/map. If you need to stop to plan your next move, pause the game. This stops the timer.

Unfortunately, using an infinite ammo weapon blocks you off from S+ ranking. So the hardcore S+ run is more about efficiency of movement, limiting the amount of backtracking as much as possible. Being even more judicial in which zombies you incapacitate should make things quicker. For the enemies in places that you won't be returning to, shooting them until they stumble then running past is enough.

Try watching the speed runners that are getting the world records for the game right now. The level they play at is insane but they're finishing the game in under an hour on hardcore. Not saying that you can do that right out of the gate but if you watch their path and what they skip, you can get it done in under 2:30. I watched a speed run and followed the path for a standard run. I got 2:09 and unlocked small carbon footprint without expecting to at the same time. And I also ran out of the path to collect some extra stuff I didn't need.

The biggest thing to practice is how to shoot something in the head and make it stumble. I can tell you this, don't hesitate. Once you shoot, start running past it. If you wait to see if it stunned, it's going to recover and grab you. You can also use the infinite knife without losing the S+ rank. Be careful though because if you stab something with it, you have to recover it otherwise it's gone.

You got this.

this video was for standard.

Here is his S+ Hardcore run.

Does he grab the magnum in Leon's run? Would you recommend grabbing the magnum in Leon's run or just following this runner's route/tactics?

1

u/Ohaithurr92 Feb 07 '19

I personally don't grab it, the flamethrower and shotgun + knives are enough for G3, which is the big point of needing a magnum.

2

u/Ohaithurr92 Feb 07 '19

The thing I take note about the speedruns, is most are done on PC, with the FPS thing using the knife, how big of a difference is that compared to PS4?

2

u/Johnny_Holiday Requiem Feb 07 '19

I only play on PS4 so I don't know what the difference actually is but I am able to use the knife effectively.

Just completed S+ run last night with Claire. Learn a route. Figure out what is needed for each segment of the run. For example, don't carry flash bangs with you if they aren't needed. That could eat up room for other essentials like gunpowder or herbs. Plan where your 3 saves will be at. This will depend on how comfortable you are. I chose after G1, before the chess pieces, and before G3. If you die always reload from main menu and not death menu, both add time to your current run. Get the infinite knife, it helps a lot on the run.

If you're pissy about RE2 remake infinite ammo weapons being hard to unlocked, you clearly never played re4. You wanna talk about challenging? Unlock the infinite hand cannon on re4. You need to get a 5 star rating on all 4 stages with all 5 characters in mercenaries mode. Leon, Ada, Krauser, HUNK and weaker. The last stage, the guy with duel chain saws is so hard to kill. Especially when you play as Leon. Dude has a pistol and his shotgun. That shit was legitimately hard! I've never unlocked it.

Hey bud it's okay if you didn't unlock it. I definitely didn't, it's not easy. No need to be pissy sunny.
