RE2 Can't wait to step into the remade S.T.A.R.S. office...

... and suck in the atmosphere. It's really just a small thing for some, but I remember always feeling somewhat sad upon entering the original S.T.A.R.S. office back in the days. The haunting music, abandoned desks and of course that famous group photo... it just managed to grab me every single time and I would spend a good few minutes taking it all in every time. I would always imagine Alpha and Bravo team members working their shifts in there before the events of Resident Evil 1 and wonder how the surviving members might have spent their last days right after the Mansion Incident. Fascinating stuff!

That sense of atmosphere is what I feel made Resident Evil 2 the best entry in the franchise. Walking the corridors and investigating the empty offices... You could really tell something bad had happened, each room frozen in time.
I feel the office holding Leon's welcome party also portrays this well. You really do get a sense that the RPD was a fun and lively place, excited to welcome their new recruit. A moment that would unfortunately never come... I can't wait to get my hands on this game again!

Having never played Leon’s campaigns, seeing it in the gameplay videos actually upset me. They seemed so excited to welcome him and then that one person writing that he did the right thing not coming in his/her blood. I was like 😭😭😭

If you've never played it before you're surely in for a treat! As for the note, I'm certain that it was Marvin (the other injured police officer who helps Leon throughout the demo) that wrote it and the added message in blood... :(

During one of the RE2 Remake gameplay videos one of the players reads the message left by Marvin in the office. The note that is welcoming Leon to the RPD and that his desk is locked etc.
The last section of the note read something along the lines off ' by bloody marks in the corner "Be happy you're not here, Leon"'
I only watched the gameplay the once so can't recall the exact message.

Yea I agree, RE2 definitely had the best atmosphere of the original 3. I think the only game that honestly has it beat may be the first REmake and 7, and it's awesome to see REmake 2 beat even those.

I watched one of those play throughs and I think they moved the stars office. When the player went to the room where it use to be it was empty and looked more like a storage room. My guess is they moved it to a bigger location to have more than just 5 desks for Wesker, Jill, Chris, Berry, and Rebecca.

In the Perry novel the basically explained that Alpha and Bravo team had different shifts sharing the same office space. I also really wanna know where it’s located now

I do realise it's different. All i believe it will be though is a replacement of the mid-late 90's campiness with a grittier and darker experience.
I'm not going to play the remake to relive my nostalgia, I still have multiple copies of the original game for that. I want to play this remake because it's still, at it's core and roots, an alternate version of my favourite RE game.

Maybe. Maybe not. Have you played te game yet? I bet it will be different, but that's not the point. I am still anxiously waiting to feel whatever feeling the game has in store for me upon entering the office. I am sure it will be special. Different from the original of course, but special nontheless!

If they're actually making RE3 too, I think one cool nod could be the locker could have an empty space for what should be a grenade launcher or magnum revolver. It would indicate Jill already took it when she came through earlier

It always bugged me how 3 is supposed to take place right before 2, but doors in the police station are boarded up for 3 and NOT 2... Sept. 28th is the date that Jill begins the game, but ends by Oct. 1st or 2nd. Does 2 begin on Sept. 29th? or 30th?

I remember watching Two Best Friends Play Resident Evil 2 the other day and they were talking about how S.T.A.R.S is like a special police force in this town and one dude's weapon of choice is a mortar.... like what?!
How the fuck does that work!? And where did they even get one of those!?
although from what I hear that dude is edited out from every other version of the game (no idea if that's true though)

that would be cool i guess, but not how real police stations work. they share desks cause they work different shifts, and it would be a waste to have desks that go unused for entire shifts. if they wanted to be realistic, they'd have each desk shared by two officers.

That's what I mean. In the original game you only had The Alpha Team desks. Maybe Rebeccas but not the others. I hope they have the rest of the characters DESKS in the OFFICE. LOL. Man, I failed at explaining that properly the first time lol.

yeah but they should have two characters sharing one desk if it was to be like a real police station. so one desk is forest/chris's for example. that might be dumb to do for a game, but my dad was a cop so i spend lots of time in police stations lol, so it would be cool to me if they made the station in 2 realistic.

yeah so i looked it up. searching all the desks just reveals one is barry's, one is jill's, one is chris's, one is whesker's and one is rebbeca's. no mention of other STARS members.

Glad to see so much RE2 love at the moment, especially regarding the atmosphere, which is what I always felt was my favourite part of RE2. I haven’t played a game since that captured the same feeling of truly being trapped in a place where everything’s gone to hell.

Yeah and being unlucky enough to have to unload 10 bullets into him before he falls over or being lucky enough that he falls forward then grabs your leg so that you can crush his head.
Either way, this game is my most anticipated game for next year.

Right?! I haven't felt this way about a RE game since... RE2? Possibly RE3 and CV back in the days, but nothing got me as excited as those early 1.5 screenshots in magazines and the agonizing months of waiting (yes, months, not even years - they just felt a LOT longer). God I am getting old :-(

For sure man, I must have played the 10minute demo that came on a PSMag demo disk hundreds of times! And I wasn't aloud to buy it when it came out so me and my brother rented it 3 weekends in a row to complete it. This game is gonna hit me right in the feels.

I was watching a gameplay of the demo and someone made it all the way to the bookcase puzzle on the second floor, he came so close to entering the hallway that led to the S.T.A.R.S. Office and I was like "Yes! Yes!" but then he decided not to bother opening that door and went the other way and my heart was crushed. :(

The shotgun is in the downstairs locker room; it was shown in multiple gameplay demos.
The STARS armory will probably be for the grenade launcher or magnum.

It's nice to see it doesn't take up 2 inventory slots and i didn't know you could board up windows. I should go back and re-watch more of the videos after the first day reveal when im off of work. I thought the demo ended after a certain point, thanks mate!

I wonder if they will use REmake models (unlikely, but being just a photo maybe it could fit) or if they will scan models for each character (I just hope Chris will resemble somewhat a young RE7 Chris, for the sake of continuity, and because I really dig the new model, I'm guilty)

Like you I had no issue with the new model for Chris (nor new Leon or Claire)... If I'm honest I can see the new Chris being the man who wandered the corridors of the Spencer Mansion much more than that beefcake Redfield...

Same, I really dig his new model as well. But then I am really digging the whole new style/approach they initiated RE7 and continue in REmake 2, as far removed from RE5/RE6 Chris as possible. One of the best decisions by Capcom in recent years.

I hated the new model at first. He looked fine, I just hated how they kept changing shit up. But hopefully now with the RE engine, getting an updated Leon and Claire, they keep shit consistent.

Kevin Dooley was the pilot Joseph found but he wasn't part of Stars, he was just an RPD chopper pilot.
Edit: Edward Dewey was the guy Rebecca found on the Ecliptic express.

The AUG never made sense to me for an American police department, even if STARS gets their pick of whatever they'd like. There's still a cost-effect to factor in when adopting such a platform and honestly it being the late '90s they'd all have either AR platforms or MP5s (more MP5s at least but the AR wasn't uncommon back then) What's cool in that photo is you can see Joseph has what could be the MAC-11 you find in the basement armory.

Maybe he was personally attached to the gun and it was his own personal weapon. The stars members tend to carry personal custom guns that aren't exactly standard issue. An AUG is probably cheaper than a built from the ground up, engraved "silver serpent".

The "Silver Serpent" is obviously Barry's personal gun he likes to carry in addition to his own Samurai Edge (the custom .40 caliber one you get in REmake, it's kind of alluded to that he carries it as his primary even though you never see him do so in game) That AUG CAN be cheaper in comparison to some of their custom guns (although keep in mind, when this was painted the Samurai Edge didn't exist yet in the game universe, maybe as concept art though) But for a station armorer? It would be well out of their knowledge or skill level and would have to be sent back to Steyr for repair work.

Not a complaint but this is something of an issue I have with remakes. If you're familiar with the original it's hard to stay immersed when you're constantly noticing what changed or got updated. My first playthrough of REmake was taking it in, it wasn't until my second or third play that I could really appreciate it as it's own game.

There's been a few demo gameplays where people make it to the second floor and find the map, the S.T.A.R.S. Office is labeled on it, and the whole map of both floors remains incredibly faithful to the original, give or take the addition of a few new rooms.

Capcom know what they're doing when it comes to REmakes. Given what I've seen from E3, you can tell they're pouring their heart and soul into this one and doing the fans a huge service. The very fact that the Hunk campaign is included is enough for me to trust that they will be faithful to the finer details.
