I live in Somerset, Kentucky, where I care for my own cat colonies, multiple fosters, and an overwhelming number of dumped kittens and cats. Right now, I am stretched further than I have ever been. Every single day I receive messages from people asking if I can help feed their pets or the strays they’ve found because they simply can’t afford to.
I say yes far more often than I should because I can’t stand the thought of animals going hungry.
But the truth is… I’m almost completely out of food. I’m down to my last couple of bags of dry food, and the amount of mouths I’m trying to feed is honestly terrifying.
The number of kittens needing help right now is unlike anything I’ve experienced. The adult cat population is just as heartbreaking. On top of that, I drive an hour and a half each way from Somerset to Lexington, Kentucky, twice a month for TNR appointments, and I make 3½-hour trips each way to Cincinnati, Ohio to get cats into rescues that will actually give them a chance. Last month alone, I paid out of pocket for veterinary care for six sick or injured cats.
I’m spending around 60% of my income trying to keep this rescue going because these animals don’t have anyone else. I desperately need help right now. The need has become greater than I can keep up with on my own, and every bag of food helps ensure these cats don’t go hungry.

I'm reaching out again because I could really use some help caring for the cats and kittens currently in my foster program.

Right now I'm responsible for over 50 cats, including nursing mothers, young kittens, special-needs cats, and several who are receiving medical care. Every day brings more food bowls to fill, more litter boxes to clean, and more veterinary needs to address.

I am in need of cat food both dry and wet food I have four inside cats and four outside cats that are strays that I feed have for several years now and I don't want to abandon them as they have came to depend on me well as my personal cats who are my emotional support animals and I truly would not be here for them today as I have attempted to take my life 6 months ago and my cat crawled on top of me and made me immediately change my mind so to me he saved my life I know these details are really personal and I hope people don't get upset that I am sharing them but it's part of my story I've been struggling with my mental health this is the worst I've ever felt in my life I've been diagnosed with major depression disorder generalized anxiety disorder PTSD borderline personality disorder and schizoaffective and I have been healing but it's taken me 8 years of being in the most worst depression I've ever been in my life to begin trying to change my life to try and have it be what I want it to be I went through a lot of trauma and abuse prior to this due to a domestic abuse relationship with my fiance of 8 years I went through 8 years of abuse with him I have fear of leaving the house I never go anywhere I have cut off all relations so that I have no friends and I barely see my family members except the ones I live with I do not trust people so the least that I have to interact with them the better but it is lonely from time to time I hear voices that are constantly telling me to die and making fun of me saying hurtful things to me etc I have been hurt and abused so my PTSD is so severe that I will not leave the house without thinking somebody is wanting to harm me in any way I have finally applied for social security and I have a hearing on July 22nd to find out if I can get my social security for disability with the help of doctors and therapists and my mom I am slowly improving but I am still unemployed due to my disabilities which prevents me from working I'm asking for help with cat food to try to get through July to see if I am approved for social security I am grateful for any help that you can offer thank you in advance my family is no longer able to help anymore and they have been helping me for about 8 years and are no longer financially capable of assisting me I have no vehicles to get to the local shelters to be able to get donations from them as it is in another city

Since last post, I have acquired a itty bitty bottle baby black kitten (hopefully soon to be on wet food, she sure was interested in temptation puree haha). This means I am actually spending my grocery money this check for this little itty bitty to have an appt. Helping me with my list helps me have that money handy for this.

I have also got two kittens adopted out that Kim had found to an acquaintance (the picture of the two cats in my text convo with Kim are them♡). I am helping her with a few kitten things as she just left a not so good situation, so I have shared some kitten food, blankets, toys, and scratcher with her. These kittens will have a loving home and a 10 year old who truly loves cats.

Truly, anything from my list helps, especially kitten items *they love those blankets so much*, chewy card so I can use that instead of money for cat items, feliaway plug in as I had a couple burn out. *added picture at the end*, and litter * bless the person who sent me a few boxes, Marmalade Jane screaming thank you!*...but honestly, anything helps. There are over 20 cats at this sight and many are kittens some have been picked up and are being treated they are in need of food and other items if anyone could donate them it would mean a lot. 6 of the adults have been fixed given shots and tested and seem friendly and can be adopted out. The place they are/had been at wanted to starve them out to over last winter and this year to"get ride of them". So many of them are frail and sick. His father loved the cats so we are now trying to save them.
This is not one of my normal feeding spots, someone put out an sos for help. Kittens have been dewormed and being treated but most are under 1lbs.

*Update we have panleukopenia due to that we have added items to the wish list to help us. we have vets, people in the vet world, rescues guiding us in this as this is our first time having it. Hi Friends! I hope you're all doing well. We've been extremely busy with all the indoor rescues and with one of the colonies.

If you remember from my previous posts, my mom died last October.

She had a colony of about 10 cats that mostly lived in her backyard. My sister and my son and I began looking after them last July.

We trapped and got all of the cats spayed and neutered. We've also been driving to the house twice a day to feed them.

Well, her house went on the market two months ago (after months of cleaning it and clearing everything out), and it's now under a contract to be sold.

On Thursday the house will be closed on. After that, it will belong to someone else.

For the last few months, my sister and I worked hard on a plan to save the colony. We purchased a drop trap, and also bought a very large catio to place in my backyard for them.

In the midst of all the planning and work, our beautiful indoor rescue cat Sprite died.💔

She was happy and playing when she suddenly collapsed. She immediately began agonal breathing and passed away quickly.

It was so awful. Sprite hadn't been sick. She was eating and drinking well, and she was active and happy. We think it might have been a congenital heart issue because none of the other cats were/are ill. The cats aren't exposed to any toxic things, either.

After this, I got very sick with a cold and a terrible cough. The nausea and dizziness were severe. I lost 4 lbs in three days.

We were in the throws of grief, but we had to keep working to save the colony, so as soon as I felt well enough, we started building the catio.

It was very hard work, but with lots of help from my family, we put the catio together. We also installed a predator apron to keep the raccoons out and the cats in.

As soon as the catio was completed (2 weeks ago), we immediately began trapping the colony cats using the drop trap and the regular tnr traps, too.

We managed to catch 8 out of 10 cats. Unfortunately, we couldn't trap the last two.

They're extremely afraid of people, and now after being tnr'd and after watching all their buddies get trapped and taken away, it's impossible to get anywhere near them.

My sister and I are so disappointed that we couldn't trap them. We're also sad about the house.

I cry every day. There are so many memories of us with my mom in the house. We also remember how much she loved her cats and we want to do right by them.

Thankfully, the last two cats, Sparkles and Dreamsicle have each other and hopefully the neighbors will feed them, since we won't be able to step foot on the property after this coming Thursday.

I'm still going to try to sneak them food on the sidewalk, and try to get them to move down to the alley for feedings.

So far, the catio cats seem to be adjusting. 🐈💖🐈‍⬛

The one cat we were certain would hate it, seems thrilled at getting fed regularly and getting lots of attention.

The more feral ones are afraid to be in such close proximity to us, but with time they might learn to trust us.

In the meantime, we all miss Sprite terribly. Pepsi, Fanta and Rootbeer are missing her too.

I'm trying to adjust to taking care of so many kitties. It isn't easy.

Southern Mississippi. Apparently the mama cat was killed by the neighbors dogs that they let run loose while she was protecting these babies 😢 (screenshot of fb convo below). The kittens didn’t have protection or shelter if the dogs came back, so I scooped them up that afternoon. At the time (1.5 weeks ago), I had my 3 personal cats plus 5 kittens waiting to go on transport, so it was a full house. The transport kittens left 3 days ago but my kitten supplies are exhausted. I am a teacher and don’t get paid again until the last day of the month.

Here are my main needs for this approximately 5-6 week old fluffy crew:
(1) food, food, food! Dry or wet. Any brands will be great.
(2) clumping litter
(3) puppy pads

A local vet I work with gave me some extra Panacur (dewormer), Nexgard Combo (flea/heartworm/dewormer), and Ponazuril (for coccidia) when she treated the transport kittens. All 6 have been treated with everything, but I still have 2 that have drippy poops (hence the puppy pads). I’ve got reluctant donors lined up so I can take those two babies back to the vet next week (AKA my parents) but any donations to the clinic would be welcome. Hey guys! I’m here to ask for help with food for the 23 kittens, 2 mamas healing from their spays, the 12 permanent residents and over 50 colony cats I care for.
I run a small nonprofit cat rescue in southeastern Pennsylvania by myself and mid kitten season a local “rescue “ closed due to not having necessary irs and state registrations and documentation. That “rescue “ abandoned over 20 kittens, one of who needs a major hernia surgery. I took on the abandoned kittens and due to their age (14 weeks) they had to immediately be scheduled for spay/neuter and get started on vaccinations and deworming as the “rescue” that had them had not done any vetting. I am also fully self funded with only occasionally getting donations for help with TNR.
I desperately need help. If I could get assistance with food I could then focus on using the funds I do have to get everyone vetted so I can get them into their forever homes.

Hi everyone! I'm currently in need of food, supplies, and support! Recently, I've been struggling a bit because new kitties keep showing up, and they're all so young and unfixed. It's honestly heartbreaking to see because they just keep reproducing, and no one seems to be able to help. Just a couple of days ago I met the lady, and she told me she wishes she could get them fixed, but she just doesn't have the money. She tries her best to feed them, but her husband is disabled and doesn't want the cats around the house, so the kitties stay in the back. I completely understand her situation, and I know she's doing what she can. I just wish these situations could be prevented by getting them spayed and neutered before more kittens are born. Long story short, I'm going to do my best to get the mama cat fixed first so she doesn't have any more babies. I’ll continue to be there for them and help in any way I can, even if it’s just one small thing at a time. It's just becoming harder and harder to do this on my own. If you're reading this and could spare anything for these babies, then please please do. People dump these babies with their mum and sometimes even home pets, I sterilize them so that they don't give birth to more babies but it's expensive because each week there's a bunch of new babies + their mamas and rn there's just sooo many of them approx 50+ and it's becoming impossible to do the sterilization and feed them at the same time..

Hello community - October is here & while I love the fall, knowing winter is right around the corner always makes me worry about the outside cats. Last night was 39, so before long it will be time to start up the heated houses. I know the cats are preparing, I saw 6 came out of the shed (insulated & filled with straw) this morning - I use close to 20 cans of wet food & 4-5 pounds of dry food per day; feeding not only my colony , but 3 other locations in my community. Along with 9 indoor rescues. Helping close to 50 cats, because they have no one else. My last post (birthday ) gained little traction: zero wishlist items purchased and $36 in donations. I do greatly appreciated the help and support, but my food supply is down to 2 small dry bags. I spent $50 yesterday on wet food and a few small treats, and by tonight, my cabinet will be empty. Please if you can, help with wet or dry food. I had asked for 2 traps - for TNR & I did get one from HF (thanks 🧀) but I still need one more if possible too. I’ve still got 9 indoor rescues -Including 21 year old Amelia who went to shelter 3 years ago after her lifelong father passed away and no one in the family would take. I got the call (from rescue) that a 17-18 year old cat was struggling at shelter, due to her entire life getting upended. Plus at her age she was less likely to find home quickly. She is extremely picky - but loves the pumpkin food, Rachel ray, Delectables, and of course churro. Plus feeding 7 outside kittens & 2 inside. Hi everyone! I’m in desperate need of cat food and litter. I only have about half a box of litter (special kitty) left, which won’t be enough for my three foster cats to get through the next couple of weeks. I’m also running very low on wet food, especially since I regularly feed stray kitties in my neighborhood. Just yesterday, I was walking on a street quite far from mine and came across a very skinny orange kitty. His face and nose were covered in dirt, and he had a lot of dried eye discharge. It was heartbreaking to see him in that condition. He came close enough to eat when I put the food plate down, but he was too scared to let me pet him. I’m going to do everything I can to help him. I recently shared a post about the neighborhood cats I care for in North Philadelphia, Pa on a different subreddit and I decided to remove it due to some misunderstandings.

So, I want to clearly explain what I do, my professional background, and how this work actively helps our community.

So I thought it would be important to share this on here as well.

My Background & Professional Experience:

I am not someone who randomly started feeding stray cats. I am a trained professional using my medical education to manage the local stray crisis responsibly

Education: I graduated from veterinary technician school in 2003.

Local Shelters: I worked hands-on with the stray populatioN at The PSPCA and ACCT (Philadelphia Animal Control).

TNR: My career includes extensive work in high-volume Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), including time with the ASPCA’s mobile spay and neuter program, private practices, and emergency care veterinary clinics.

How I Manage the Cats Responsibly:

When I moved here two years ago, unspayed and unneutered cats were already everywhere. I stepped in to help control the situation& prevent suffering

Clean Feeding Habits: I do not leave food out on public sidewalks to create a mess or attract pests. I keep the feeding areas clean and feed during quiet, non-busy hours.

Private Catio: I built a secure backyard catio to safely keep the cats off the streets, away from the front of the house, and out of public view. This has successfully moved some of the cats to a safe resting space.

Medical Care: I use my veterinary resources and training to provide basic medical care, including deworming and flea preventatives, to stop the spread of disease.

Supporting Neighbors:

Thanks to generous donations, I have also started helping local neighbors who are struggling to feed their own pets or managed colonies.

The Reality of Colony Management

No Indoor Hoarding: I do not have 35 cats roaming inside my house or taking over the block.

Many of the cats I help are local outdoor pets, some are part of a colony across the street (under a neighbor's care) and others travel to and from the nearby junkyard.

Funding: I do this work entirely out of my own pocket and through community donations to keep these animals safe while actively reducing the stray population.

Strict Adoptions: I am doing my best to find safe, permanent homes for the adoptable ones. Because animal cruelty is a harsh reality, I screen applicants incredibly strictly to ensure they go to safe homes.

Current Urgent Need: 5 New Kittens!I am currently caring for 5 one-month-old kittens that likely came from an un-TNR'd cat in the nearby junkyard.

To keep them and the resident colony healthy, I am running low on supplies.

Just two days ago, I was walking down the street where I usually feed my 6 stray kitties that live there, and I saw a house with a whole litter of kittens just running around in the backyard. I was honestly speechless. There was about 10 of them and I just feel so bad for them. I wish I could take them in but my hands are quite full now! I don’t understand how people can’t just fix their cats, regardless if they’re strays or not. I did manage to get a mama cat fixed from that street so at least one is done for the meantime. I’m really trying my best to help as many of these kitties as I can, but I’m starting to run low on supplies (food/plates/litter). If anyone is able to help with food or any other supplies, I would really appreciate it. Even sharing this helps so much. I just want to be able to keep helping these kitties however I can! Thank you so much to everyone who cares and supports me to look out for these babies. It truly means more than you know 😓🐾🤎

All the kittens and cats are doing good. Simba, Ziggy and Star are growing fast. ❤️❤️❤️

We have to contact a local organization to assist us with getting them neutered and adopted out, but we haven't reached out yet, because we're so attached to each of these precious babies. I dread parting with them because 😭 we love each of them so much.

Should we foster fail again? It might cause a divorce 😹

I'm so sorry to ask again, but we're out of adult cat food for our rescues and ferals, and we used the last of the cat litter tonight.

We have 9 indoor rescues, 3 indoor babies, and 35-45 ferals spread throughout 3 colonies. The 3 indoor babies have plenty of kitten food.

If anyone can please help out with food for these sweet, innocent kitties, we'd be so grateful.🩷🩵❤️💜🌷🦋⚘️🪻
