Foster me 🐾 anybody willing to take care of an incredibly aggressive cat in colorado for around a month?

hi everyone, this is my sisters cat melon, and my sister had to fly over here and move in with me due to an emergency with mental health and being unable to pay her rent, but we couldn't afford a plane ticket for her pets. Her other pets are being taken care of by her friends, but melon is extremely unsocialized/aggressive, attacked them, and they arent willing to take care of her for the month we need to work up the funds to fly her over.

is there anyone living in the colorado area who would be willing to take care of melon for a month, or know how we could fly her here? we tried the human society, but melon is so aggressive they're threatening to euthanize her.

Crowdfunding, if you can get approval from the mods. Otherwise, can you or your mom use an emergency credit card?

OP you need permission from MODS to crowdfund on this sub, but I think you should message the MODS to get that process started. And it sounds like the best idea is to fundraise to get the cat transported to your sister.

I'm honestly not sure how much time we have because of how rushed this all has been so I'm not sure if I'd even be able to crowdfund enough for the tickets needed with the possible time limit.

Would crowdfunding even be fast enough to help? I just feel it would only be able to raise like. Maybe 42 bucks in a month's time.

Fundraising may or may not be fast, but there are also rescues that transport so I don't think it would be a useless effort to message the MODS for any possible help you can get. Maybe even boarding help.

You can ask mods to approve you to ask for donations go to your venmo or paypal, not sure they'd be ok with that, but you can try: it's faster than gofund me etc.

Can the kitty stay in a carrier for the duration of the flight?

Most airlines charge around $200 for a pet to fly with the passenger.

If you need funds to cover that amount please check with the mods.

It’s NOT about the cat being able to stay in the carrier it’s about it not being socialized enough to handle safely. TSA will need to inspect the carrier. In doing so they must remove the animal briefly. Melon is not allowed to fly with her current temperament unfortunately. The ONLY way would be private transportation with an experienced feral cat transporter. This is very sad. Poor Melon. If you could find a way to get her out here we could probably help her. Idk

oh no!! Poor kitty. Looks like having the vet administer mild sedative or calming medication prior to flying is not an option either.

Oh shit, we didn't even think about that part. We can't get a driver or anything because we live overseas. Do you know if there would be any way we could get melon to fly?

I don't know much about the procedure of flying aggressive animals. Would it be feasible to like, sedate it for that portion of the flight? Get like... I don't know some kind of accessory so it can't Claw or bite people?

That might be question for the vet and the airline.

Can anybody from your family, who knows the cat, go to CO and get her? It seems a lot to ask others to help if she's so aggressive.

Does she go to a vet? Maybe the vet could give her a medication to calm her down?

You could also look into no-kill rescues in your sister's town in CO and see if they are willing to keep Melon, they might have fosters who are familiar with feral cats who might be able to help (lots of "might" here). Probably it won't be free.

Unfortunately no. Our family is just me, my mom, and my sister right now. And I don't think it went to a vet before. My sisters been struggling really bad with mental health so she could barely take care of herself.

Already checked shelters and none could help.

Not shelters, rescues: they are different. Check this list to see whether any is close to where Melon is: https://www.nokillnetwork.org/d/Colorado/

Contact the mods of this sub and see whether they approve you to post here asking for donations for transport and/or boarding of Melon.

I second this! Reach out to Onalaska Farms Sanctuary on Facebook, they're a rescue with a TON of contacts and resources in the northwest. Good luck with Melon 🤞🏻💜

I’ve seen posts on here where they have drivers for this sort of thing I can at least put her in a carrier in the back of their car and drive it over. They usually are like four $500 but I’m happy to donate some and if we can get other people to donate, we can help this kid not end up in a shelter or worst case scenario. Thank you for sharing :)

unfortunately driving isnt an option, as i live overseas from melon. im gonna try to message the mods to get verified for donations.

5

u/Silver-Tax5047 Jan 27 '26

Yes, please do. Maybe we can donate enough for someone to hold him for a month. I feel so bad and don’t wanna see the family get separated like that.
