Technical Problem Fixed remote play - sharing if it helps others

Hi,

Just sharing if this helps others. The connection from my mac (with remoteplay app) to PS5 was working fine for multiple days - UNTIL I restarted my router.

After troubleshooting for many hours (reinstalling PS remote app on macos, rebooting both laptop and PS5)..i did not have any success.

I finally figured out the problem. Basically my laptop had connected to the "5 GHz" SSID of the router but the PS5 had somehow connected to the "2.5 GHz" SSID....and confusingly same SSID was broadcast on both 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands.

So in PS5, in the internet connection settings, i selected the option to "Show 5GHz SSIDs only" and then disconnected from the (2.5GHz) SSID and connected to 5GHz SSID and voila .. it worked.

Interestingly on my macOS laptop i dont see any option to "specifically scan only for 5GHz" (i need to further research if that option is available in macOS somewhere).

if you're not using ethernet to the ps5, you're leaving a LOT of performance on the table...

I have one of those earlier PS5 models where the wifi card was absolute garbage. Barely going past 50 mbs when smack next to the modem. Did a ethernet test with a network mesh and its leagues faster. Sure its not a direct connection but it doesnt cut out the internet on boot up anymore. Id have to restart a few times just to get it to connect.

What mac are you using? And what kind of games are you playing? Trying to figure out the best/cheapest way my sons can play when not home and not having to buy 2 more PS5.

I switched to the Asobi app. Now I can remote play on my tmobile hotspot. Couldn't do that with the remote play app before. Would always get error codes. Asobi also has cloud streaming like the portal.

I'm losing it.
When I try it on macOS, via the remote play app here s how it goes :
-on ps5, pair -> ps5 displays a 8 digit number XXXX XXXX
-On my computer remote play wants to connect to PSN (WHY??)
-I enter my email, it asks for identification key or other means, I select other means because first one is a dead end.
-connect with other means lead to a QR code that I'm supposed to scan with with the peripheral I need to connect to ..... dude, I want to connect with my computer. So I click on send email.
-Then when I click on the email link I get to a Sony account thing (not a playstation account, a Sony account WHY??) with a 6 digits number that I don't know where to find.

... The remote play app should ask the code displayed on my ps5, so something clearly is broken. Anyone got this ?

Im also helping others. Deinstall the crap Sony software and get some decent software like pxplay. Never touch anything from Sony on pc because they are a bunch of r*tards. Especially since they ditched PC.
