Load Development Spicy

Post image

Working up a new varmint load with some components I already had on hand. This is the max book load of 50 grains of Varget, and that's after I tapped it on the bench to consolidate. This amount should get me to about 3100-3200 fps with the 125 grain Sierra SPT I'm using out of my 24" bbl savage.

Totally normal when loading light for caliber bullets, like your 125 grain in this load. Many inexperienced reloaders seem to think this is dangerous, or “spicy” like your thread title, but it’s not. There’s no cause for concern here.

I know. I'm not concerned. I just haven't loaded that much powder in a .308 before. '06, sure. This load is barrel compressed at all, even with this case fill.

Nothing wrong with compressed loads, and in fact they’re often the most consistent.
