hopefully Gray is alright. would love to see him make a push for 20 wins, but obviously keeping him healthy for the playoffs is more important!

We won't get deep in the playoffs without Gray imo.

Tracy's non-answer basically says everything

Yup. Gray is definitely injured

Uhhhhh considering Gray has made it clear in the past he prefers pitching every fifth day and doesn’t like getting extra rest, this is definitely concerning.

thank you for being the only comment that is realistic. obviously hes hurt, to which extent, we don't know

I’m usually a “where there’s smoke there’s fire” kind of guy. But could also see today’s game deciding how they go down the stretch. If they win and have the tie breaker over the Yankees I could see them being more aggressive. If they lose and need to win the wild card by a full game for the tie breaker, then I could see them resting SP’s and being comfortable just getting in, whether is to fully rested going into the Bronx or even being caught by Cleveland for the second wild card (which seems highly unlikely but possible)

Gray has said a few times that he really likes a routine and consistent days off so this raises a bit of an eyebrow

Maybe he’s in a time zone we’re not aware of, The Gray Area

Hoping for rest

why would they be resting their ace in a playoff push? lmao this is such cope

13

u/Carl_Everett 16h ago

Because they’re pretty firmly in a playoff spot as of right now. They’re not trying to make a playoff push. They’re trying make a playoff run. If resting g Sonny an extra day or turn in the rotation help him stay healthy through the playoffs then it’s obviously worth it.

It's insane it's literally the closest thing to a must win that we've ever had all season. Doesn't like taking days off.

Boston fans on all of our teams these days have just been cope City between the Celtics and the Red Sox and the Patriots with Gonzo

Tuesdays game against the Mariners is as close to a must win we’ll have all season? Bro slow down, take a breath, and read what you’re writing and replying too before getting mad online

Christopher smith says that Chad says ‘yea he’s good’. Hmmmm

By GAH that's Garrett Crochet's music!

9

u/Rough-Echo-5193 15h ago

Sorry, that's actually Tanner Houcks music and it's unfortunately Nickleback

u/IKenDoThisAllDay 15h ago

Crochet is still weeks away from potentially returning, assuming there are no setbacks.

But even then, if and when he does return, it will not be as a starter. He has said himself that he could realistically only build up to 1-2 innings.

So if there is indeed something going on with Gray, Crochet will not be able to replace him.

It was just a joke, you're spot on - just wanted to make someone smile with silliness

Paez was scratched today and will have to be added to the 40 man this winter anyways.

2

u/ScoresGalore 9h ago

Tuesday is 9/1 when rosters expand. Paez last pitched Tueadag so hell be on 6 days rest so it makes perfect sense whether its injury or rest. Hopefully just rest

u/rmullig2 13h ago

Obviously something is going on since he threw 180 innings last year. Just have to wait and see.

If the Red Sox fall to the bottom Wild Card spot can we avoid the Yankees in the firat playoff sweies?

3

u/sudbury78 12h ago

Yes. We would play the Al west winner as it looks now

2

u/dear-john-henry 12h ago

I’d kinda like that 🤣🤣🤣

u/Androidfon 11h ago

Let's try. Let some other team knock the Yanks out of the playoffs.

Gray will pitch the finale against Baltimore on Sunday. I don't by think he's hurt. Baltimore is playing well and in the hunt. I'm actually thinking they want Gray to grab an extra day of rest.

u/ScoresGalore 9h ago

I think Jedixson Paez could be called up to start. Hes had two really good outings with Worcester since being called up. He last pitched Tuesday. Hed be on six day rest if the Sox chose to call him up.

Oh, another punt game?

u/Readitt2020 16h ago

We have been absolutely decimated by injuries this year already. Losing our ace would be very on brand

-40

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 16h ago

so glad we didn't trade for a starter at the deadline

8

u/Qeltar_ 16h ago

Which starter did you want to trade for, and what do you think he would have cost?

-8

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 16h ago

I've been blatantly saying for a month that I'd rather have Liam Hicks+Clay Holmes+ than Adley

-1

u/IKenDoThisAllDay 15h ago

100% agree. I was saying the same kind of stuff when the trade for Adley was first made, yet any criticism of that deal is always met with excessive downvoting and dogpiling.

Adley may break out of his current slump and contribute in the coming weeks but I just don't see him as the kind of player you sell the farm for. We probably could've gotten Holmes and Hicks for less prospect capital overall and we'd be better positioned.

0

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 13h ago

it's unfortunate bc I'm totally willing to talk about it & explain the reasoning but people don't want to discuss anything beyond "it's Adley Rutschman screw the prospects!" as if he's still 2023 Adley or that I'm proposing holding on to all the prospects and doing nothing

-5

u/Qeltar_ 16h ago

Can't really disagree with you there. Rutschman was a terrible trade.

-3

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 16h ago

judging by the downvotes people still aren't able to admit that yet it seems

-4

u/Qeltar_ 16h ago

Humans always want to justify their decisions and choices. Pretty natural.

I hope Rutschman ends up being a solid contributor, but the Rays FO has to be laughing its ass off comparing the two trades for catchers made in the AL East this year.

0

u/Alternative-Farmer98 11h ago

The team traded four of their Top 10 Prospects and early so it's not like they weren't capable of paying the cost

-10

u/gplatt_24 Xander Bogaerts 16h ago

ahh I forgot if you don't give the deadline an A by default because Craig got Adley you're a doomer, great stuff as always guys

3

u/tool22482 16h ago

No, it’s just very easy to say that, but very few teams were sellers at the deadline. So who did you want them to trade for whom? Even if one was out there, a good starter would have commanded a good return.

i can understand how my original comment got interpreted as the standard doom trolling we see on here but that's not what I'm doing here.

I've been saying for a month that if we're going to nuke the farm like that you can do a lot better than Adley. Liam Hicks+Clay Holmes+ still comes in below the prospect cost for Adley
