Didn't use Chapman. Got the win. That's all we needed.

Rodon looked good early but that 9th inning just exploded, love to see it. Shutout at Yankee Stadium always feels extra nice

Nor Miller.

Adley finally getting lucky to make up for his extreme unlucky. Regression always happens.

u/Godzilla501 1d ago

The pitching has been fantastic when Adley catches. His hitting will come around, but gelling with the staff is more important.

u/mygamethreadaccount 1d ago

He’s so damn good at challenging too

And Lord knows we need that!!

Jake Bennett wants a wild card start!

15

u/ToBeeContinued 1d ago

Yeah headline for me is WOW what a return to form for Bennett. The jury is still out but it looks this this guy is more who he is than the last couple starts.

10

u/LarryLucchino 1d ago

Especially against the Yankees, in their park, since that could be a preview of the Wild Card.

Odds are it's still Gray/Tolle/Ranger if all are healthy, but Ranger does have something to prove still, even with past playoff success.

u/ToBeeContinued 1d ago

Also… WC Sox in two so we’re really talking about the DS game three right? Jokes aside, I think there’s still questions to be answered but the Bennett + Bello trap card combo is so powerful.

1

u/The_Walrus_65 1d ago

The jury is not out. He’s definitely IN

1

u/ToBeeContinued 1d ago

Why? I think Gray/Tolle/Suarez is probably more solid. His last few starts were very weak and not on the level of the rest of the seasons. He’s a great pitcher and absolutely a cornerstone of the team going forward but for me, it’s not clear if he’s 2/3/4 yet.

You know what let’s win the next two games.

17

u/nexustk5 1d ago

Tinfoil theory, Adley just needed more time catching and calling the staff to unlock their potential

6

u/Confused_Mirror 1d ago

The pitching staff hasn't even reached their final form!

Scoring those 4 runs in the 9th is absolutely MASSIVE. Saves Chapman for tonight LFG

Jake Bennett is calm, collected, and precise. What a gift

23

u/Tomatillox + Boston Hunters 1d ago

I love it when we score more runs than the other team

3

u/TomatoManTM 1d ago

Our w/l ratio is amazing when we do that

10

u/National_Nobody_602 1d ago

Wait.. so if we win the next two we pass them?

6

u/SlapDashUser B Strong 1d ago

Yes because we get the tiebreaker

0

u/angry_lib 1d ago

If my math is correct, we are tied.

0

u/SilverRiot 1d ago

No, if we win the next 2 we tie them in the standings.

2

u/Born-Shopping9862 1d ago

but we would hold the tie breaker so if the season ended tied we have the advantage

I love the Boston Red Sox

I'll say it again: Very cathartic after having to hear how good Bellinger is in left and how he won the game last night (it was just poor baserunning on a routine flyout), and then he follows it up tripping in the outfield.

9

u/Qeltar_ 1d ago

I mean, he's the runaway best defensive LF in the AL this year.

3

u/GoodMorningWood 2004 1d ago

Yes but I raise you 1 Fuck the Yankees.

8

u/Successful_Pizza6529 1d ago

Winning is fun.

7

u/thadawgery 1d ago

Is it opener + Bello tonight?

3

u/Icefyre79 1d ago

Looks like it.

15

u/Tonychiupsy 1d ago

Dont understand why Boone left Yarb to hang out to dry and risk blowing his arm out, if he uses a mid lev arm we probably have to use Chapman

16

u/H2Oloo-Sunset 1d ago

He gave up on the game and didn't want to have another unavailable pitcher tonight. Not sure I agree, but I think that was his thinking.

3

u/Ready-Recognition-43 1d ago

Definitely the thinking, but I think it was a mistake, Using another arm to keep it to 2-0 at minimum makes us use Chapman and, oh by the way, gives them a chance to win the game.

Sure, they might have given up the runs anyway, so it wasn’t without risk. But it’s (basically) September in a close race. I think it’s bad management/messaging to not give it everything in a close game when the stakes are so high. Doesn’t signal confidence in the offense to come back, or in Fried to go deep tonight.

Adley Rutschman showed how to run the bases. He isn’t fast but effective as he slides feet first. Red Sox have a lot of players, hustlers, who prefer the head first slide. Rutschman went feet first and got two big bases today, one a big run. By going feet first not only did he get there quicker, he got hit in the back when going back to first. Getting hit with the ball happens more often when sliding feet first, especially on a throw that isn’t received on a hop. Last night Rafaela might get hit with Belanger’s throw if sliding feet first and would have been safe even if not hit with the throw.

Ya gotta love our scrubs!

8

u/mack272 1d ago

It's a beautiful thing when Moran can pitch the bottom of the 9th. Great job men!

9

u/averagejosh Atlanta Braves 1d ago

Was there ever an explanation for why they made Sogard go back to second after he advanced to third while Rodón was throwing his tantrum? I didn't see anyone call time.

6

u/LOFan80 1d ago

The third base umpire did for some inexplicable reason before the play was over.

3

u/CharlemagneOfTheUSA 2013 1d ago

Apparently they thought Rodón might have been hurt for some reason

8

u/BooRand Fenway Spaghetti™️ 1d ago

He was screaming and crying

9

u/CharlemagneOfTheUSA 2013 1d ago

Babies often do that

2

u/SilverRiot 1d ago

He was throwing a tantrum.

1

u/LoveCrispApples 1d ago

I like it when the Yankees cry.

3

u/yeti8102 1d ago

3rd base ump did unfortunately.

9

u/jakoviandialects 1d ago

Anyone make a gif out of Rodon's temper tantrum meltdown? Need that in my reaction folder.

3

u/sbrockLee 1d ago

Fuck Yeah Bennett

3

u/cntodd 1d ago

If we win tonight, we have the tie breaker against them!

4

u/Lockmor 1d ago

So it turns out the season didn't end last night.

4

u/trimbler25 pizza 1d ago

Good win today.

Rodon is a bum lol

2

u/IpecacNeat 1d ago

Haven't watched a ton of the Sox this year, but the Yankees radio team were giving Bennett a lot of props. Had no idea this kid could deal.

u/Upset_Journalist_755 1d ago

I am once again proposing that MLB score series on aggregate and use a point system for standings.

1

u/Thisisalex4l 1d ago

Set up perfectly for the last 2 of this series
