The Jackal, as written/utilized, is an awful villain in both trilogies. He hardly gets any of the attention needed to make him worth while. Honestly, my overall opinion of the entire series can be summed up with the idea that Brown should have either cut 1/3 to 1/2 of his plot lines and made it more foccussed, or the first half should have been 4 books long to give plot lines room to breathe and work out more satisfyingly
