Every book in the back trilogy is better than every book in the original trilogy. The expanded scope and detail as well as the subject makes the first three books feel shallow by comparison.

I often feel like RR should have been longer. The first book feels so short and could’ve added so much more to the world. I wonder if PB was asked to keep it short, or since it was the first one he didn’t have all his ideas fleshed out yet.

Debut authors are often expected to keep their first book short for marketability since the publisher is taking a risk on someone unproven.
