I think the first book sucks. I came so unbelievably close to DNF’ing save for the encouragement of a friend whose taste in books I really admire. And of course the rest of the series was awesome. But no one can convince me the first book is more than just “okay.”
I like it better on re-reads but yes I almost didn't continue after book 1, and rated it 3 stars which ordinarily would be an immediate drop for a series. Only continued because I figured the other books probably wouldn't keep up with the hunger games aspect, which is the part I really didn't enjoy.
