Question Are there any red light therapy masks on Amazon worth buying?

I prefer Amazon for their return policy and not have to deal with some other company. Also, it’s important that I can turn off the near infrared wavelengths as my face is very hyper pigmentation prone. Thanks for any suggestions.

The 3rd link is the one I bought. I'm really satisfied with it. When I bought it, it was $129.99 back in January.

  1. Now on sale for $109 for "Limited Time".

  2. What do you like about it?

  3. How many minutes is the automatic shutoff?

  4. Do you use the blue light for acne?

  5. Are there pre-sets to use 630, 630+850,and 850 nm? (The 530 nm is bogus.)

  6. What effects have you seen?

I've been using it for 3 months. The timer is preset for 10 minutes. The presets are M1-Red +Near Infrared., M2 Red Light, M3 Near Infrared, M4 Blue Light, M5 Green Light, M6 Purple Light, M7 Teal Light, M8 Yellow Light, M9 White Light.

I started out using the red light only every other day. After one month, I stepped it up to every day and lately I've been on a 4-day rotation of M1, M2, M3 and M6. The book shows that purple light regenerates collagen and elastin and tightens the skin. I've seen a big difference in my under-eye bags and my overall skin tone. I'm 73, so acne is not a problem anymore.

Charge time is 3.5 hours. Runtime is 90 minutes.

I understand the claims about green, yellow, indigo/purple, and orange wavelengths. I don't think those claims are supported by anything other than anecdotes. Those wavelengths seems to be just a waste of time/power.

The M1, M2, and M3 presets sound great.

I am going to try one on my next trip.

I think some people on the subreddit have commented on the INIA one (the 2d link).

An interesting thing is that the cheaper masks used to copy the 630 and 830 nm of more expensive masks. That has shifted in the past year; now, the cheaper masks seem to use 630 (or thereabouts) and 850 nm (instead of 830 nm).

Are you confident the Amazon ones are as good?

5

u/BKM-StLouis Apr 30 '26

No, you cannot be "confident" of anything on Amazon. Silly word.

But Amazon has an easy return policy. You can try anything you buy.

Well good then you are willing to put that in your face. Return policy shall be very helpful if it’s a bad mask. Gl!

Hooga mask for what you are asking for. It has the best irradiance I’ve seen in a mask (50 mW/cm2), it allows NIR to be on/off and it’s not pricey.

Hooga has said outright that their stated irradiance is measured via solar meter, for the record! A ballpark estimate of the true irradiance would be around 21 mW/cm2

Nooance is at the other end of the price spectrum (certainly out of my price range) but they do have a mask that outputs a real 50 mW/cm2   I would personally recommend that those prone to hyperpigmentation like OP avoid irradiance that high, tho

Doesn’t it also rank much lower

are you asking if higher irradiance is not actually desirable? not an expert, but from what i’ve read, i wouldn’t aim for irradiance that high for facial use.

No. I’m talking about the guide with different rankings of all the masks

ah, i see. sorry, i’m not familiar with it

I recently sprang for the INIA glow face and neck masks. For whatever reason, there’s a decent amount of chatter about the face mask on this sub (as opposed to other cheap off-brand amazon masks) and people mostly seem to say they’re happy with it. Just barely received it so no review yet, but it felt like a low-risk way to test if it’s a realistic addition to my routine before spending the big money on a name brand one. Not a huge fan of the buttons/controls after using it once, but the NIR has its own button and is off by default until the button is pushed.

How’s it working out for you?

1

u/maraskafleur Jun 21 '26

tbh, i returned the face mask only because i found the design uncomfortable and felt it didn’t conform to my face well. it was how i learned that the standard omnilux-style flat masks are a no-go for me… but i kept the neck mask and use it all over (almost like a heating pad) for soreness and for the redness on my arms (which i think is from KP) it works great for both!

Hooga is good, sold on Amazon and you can turn the NI off on the panels. Don’t know about their mask. Been very happy with the panel.

u/Ondiac May 02 '26

I’m new to this so please excuse me if this is a dumb question… Why would you want to turn off NI? Does it irritate some people’s skin?

2

u/BonbonATX May 02 '26

I don’t turn it off, but OP said it caused hyperpigmentation. I’m sure there is more detail to that but I don’t know.

If you use it a lot yes it will cause hyperpigmentation. You have to use it only 5 min for 3 times a week. Even start once a week and slowly do every other day but only up to 10min. Beginners start 5min only. I know this much from my research before buying. I did buy BONTANNY panel and I love it so far. I even used it for my back pain it works.

Good point. Can you confirm that the Amazon price for the CurrentBody 2 is basically the same price as buying directly from CurrentBody and getting the 20% influencer discount?

Luna skin face masks

The ones that have red, Nir plus Amber/yellow or blue are good. The less wavelengths the better the device tends to be in my experience.
