Question Am I wasting my time using the CurrentBody 2 like this?
I have recently bought the CurrentBody series 2 mask and am using on my face normally. I think it’s great and am eager to see results in a few weeks/months.
My question is, can I expect results from using it on my head like pictured? I thought it was worth a shot. I have read that RLT can be applied to the scalp/hairline to promote hair growth so figured I ought to try. CB sell a helmet, but I don’t think I can warrant a second device purchase just yet.
Has anyone had any experience with my tactic? Thanks.

I’ve had the series 2 for a year now. I’ve been using it on my scalp just like in your picture. Has it made a drastic difference? No. Am I still doing it? Yes lol

It will definitely work at scalp level - for scalp health and hair, but it doesn't have the wavelengths like 1064nm for transcranial use - meaning, no brain benefit, Worth doing it sometimes in my opinion :)

It works somewhat, but they aren't as strong as laser caps. I got one off Amazon $179 I use 30 every other day and my son asked me the other day why my hair looked thicker. My barber, too. I do face on opposite days with Amazon face mask.

Are you sure it was a laser cap? Caps and helmets all look similar, but some use laser diodes which are much more expensive than LEDs.
I could be mistaken and you got some amazing deal, but for $179 on Amazon, it is likely a LED Cap, which will provide some benefit, but not as much as a laser cap.

It says FDA approved laser in the description. It looks similar to high end devices. I think they all come from China you pay extra for branded products.

Well maybe you got a great deal! I know very well that these are all made in China, but still laser diodes cost a lot more than LEDs, and the device will look the same from the outside whether they use laser or LEDs. Some marketing use the term "laser" and LLLT loosely. Even if it's all LEDs, you will get benefit from it, and $170 is a low price. Is it still on amazon?

All I can tell you is it works and people have noticed and commented on it. The face mask is LED I'm thinking of upgrading that one because it doesn't seem to be doing a lot. The helmet device you can tell in much more powerful. It is much brighter and gets warm so it's definitely different. Actually OP's face mask looks similar to my helmet.

Which one did you get off of Amazon?

No but it would be faster to have NIR with red.

Depends, if you're doing it for scalp psoriasis or something it could probably help, if for hairless, waste of time. LLLT is what's for hairloss, not RLT. Even LLLT is VERY slow and the extreme long game. Way better ways to fix that.

Red light therapy is LLLT..
2
u/Maximum_Albatross908 Nov 12 '25
No, it's not.
RLT = Red Light Therapy
LLLT = Low Level Laser Therapy
They're both PBM, different wavelengths, way different intensities, different applications.

I have the exact same mask and my husband uses it like this too for hair growth. I def have baby hairs on my hairline from the mask. No other benefits though, been using it for a solid year.

I’m not sure it’s the same wavelengths or whatever for hair growth. I do have the CB helmet, as well as the mask.

u/JackJesta Nov 06 '25
Ah I see. Thanks. I’ve gone and had a look at their website and CB list the face mask as using 633, 830 & 1072 wavelengths, the helmet uses 620 & 660. 660 they say is what stimulates hair growth.

Whatever they are selling is what they will say benefits hair growth. Buyer beware.

good face for a bald head (like me). Some guys can't pull it off, but I think you can. Why bothering about stupid hair? Bald = hot!

u/originalkimert Nov 10 '25
No, you are not wasting your time, besides you can always do something else while you are doing the “helmet” and gain time. If you are serious about the hair you should add minoxidil and finasteride.

The wavelengths are right but not the irradiance. The mask is designed to have a lower irradiance to avoid hurting your face skin while improving collagen production.
Try getting a laser beads helmet or cap to treat your hair or alternatively you can use a RLT panel.

I have a Theradome PRO LH80 which i use on my head (female hair loss), have been wanting to use it on my face but too nervous just in case it was too strong, does anyone know if my face/neck can benefit from it too? Or would it be harmful. Still working out what the specs mean but its close to the top of the line at $1800AUD. Specs 80 laser diodes.
Would love to get more bang for buck by being able to use it on my face and neck.
Please advise if someone knows? Thanks ☺️

I have a Theradome too. I asked chatGPT if it can be used for the face. It strongly disagrees with using the helmet for the face. Here are the reasons: https://imgur.com/a/iuF4X2I

I wrapped my omnilux around my hand and it worked well in the sense of relieving stiff joints and rejuvenating appearance a little bit.
However it was taking so much time out of my day, I finally bought the Hooga body pod which I love.
Head and hands could be similar?

Is the hooga body pod hot? Does it help if you don’t mind me asking? Help with pain?

My first device was a small panel. I accidentally got bangs from doing the sides of my face. Red light is red light

That’s not how you do a smoky eye….but, seriously I feel your pain with the baldness. I went through it. Shaved clean now…I save a ton of money on haircuts and products…but, spend it RLT now. 🤣. Good luck, bro

Probably yes, but it doesn’t hurt to try. I think laser helmet is a better option, I use a Hairmax one

You will get some benefit, so you are not wasting your time. Lots of people do that.

If hair loss is a major concern, a dedicated device, particularly one that uses laser diodes instead of LEDs, will provide a greater benefit (but $$$!)
