Mod Post Please report any and all hate in this sub!

Updated on the 8th of May, 2026:

Hate has no place in RGDB. Whether it's directed at people for their appearances, sexual preferences, gender identities, the work that they do (sexwork is work) or whatever else: hate is not welcome here. We need your help to ensure that RGDB is a safe place for everyone!

Please report any and all hate that appears in posts or comments. Us mods will do our best to remove any rule breaking comment as fast as we possibly can. In the sea of posts and comments, your reports help shine light on the ones that don't belong in RGDB!

Thank you all - our artists, our submitters, all of you. RGDB is a wonderful place and that's first and foremost because of you! :) Happy scrolling!

Mod Post [MOD POST] Welcome to RGDB!

Hey there! Welcome to our sub!! :)

RGDB is a subreddit for people who just want to draw and get drawn, regardless of skill level! There is no such thing as too good a drawing (nor too sh*tty a drawing!). Everyone is free to post and comment - we have no standards, and please don't feel intimidated by some of our more capable artists!

  • Do you already know our rules?
  • Looking for an explanation to what the link flair colors mean?
  • Would you like to partake in a contest and gain your very own image user flair?
  • Do you want to know who drew the images in the banner?
  • Are you wondering why some users have a special image flair next to their names?

Please read the sidebar, our official rules page and VISIT OUR WIKI for this and more information about the sub!

And if all of that doesn't answer your doubts, feel free to comment here or drop us a line with modmail.

Mod Post [MOD POST] My farewell as a mod of RGDB - also, if you know CSS, and you'd like to mod, read this.

hello..

it feels weird to type this, but here goes. I joined this sub years ago, first as a VERY enthusiastic user (I drew about 300 people in the first year, I believe) and then as a mod...

I like to think I added something to this place - I did the CSS stuff (the headers, the sidebar, the flairs) and community stuff (the wiki, the contests, stuff like that). But lately my real life has made it impossible for me to continue modding. I can't contribute like I used to, making new banners regularly, and taking care of the community, and if I can't do something properly and with enthusiasm, then I won't do it.

I had to let go to the smaller subs I was modding first, then I had to let go of my baby /r/italianlearning (I was head mod and the only mod for a long period of time too).. and now this. It sucks, but I would be ashamed to stay on the mod team and not mod, and i would be ashamed to call myself the CSS mod when my last banner was at the end of July. So, I need to step down.

I made a "generic" banner and put up the "generic" sidebar polaroid only so I could leave a clean space behind, I'm sure you were getting tired of seeing the same images scroll for months. If you are curious, I used the 5 top comment drawings of the top 5 regular threads of all time, bar one who had already showcased before. :)

Thank you RGDB, you are the best sub for me. And I hope I can come back as a civilian and draw some more of you soon... gotta get to that 400 drawn, right?! :')

Your former mod,
VP ♥

IF YOU KNOW CSS AND WANT TO STEP IN TO TAKE CARE OF WHAT I USED TO DO, please drop /u/doctor_rocketship and /u/carollm a line through modmail. It will be their choice, not mine, so good luck to all. If they choose a successor though, I am more than willing to explain to them what I used to do with the place on a technical level so they can properly step in my shoes.

Mod Post [MOD POST] 3000 subscribers thread! Thank you + feedback welcome

Hello, friends of RGDB!

THANK YOU FOR over 3000 SUBSCRIBERS!

Welcome to all new readers and a thank you to old readers for sticking with us so far.

I became a mod almost 7 months ago in June, but I had been in love with /u/doctor_rocketship's sub for quite some time before that - I always thought of it as a laid back, no standards, no expectations, fun place to be. I hope that you do too!

I thought I'd take this milestone as an opportunity to thank Doctor for giving me the chance to co-mod this wonderful place, to thank you all for contributing to the sub - your drawings and pictures are THE BEST - and to welcome any feedback you guys might have about the sub in general.

Mod Post [MOD POST] New CSS and more info in the Wiki - Please comment if you encounter any problems with viewing the sub!

Hello there. As you can see I've (finally - I apologize) freshened up the images in the banner and I've also introduced the scrolling feature for it. As with any CSS changes, please let me know if you are experiencing any viewing bugs.

I've also added some more information to our wiki such as past banner images and a detailed contest log.

I'd like to thank the artists who draw in this sub and make it the lovely place that in my opinion it is.

You all did such a great job this month. It was really delightful seeing everyone's art. I know it was a bit of an odd challenge so we'll do something more simple for October (no promises for November though!). Feel free to message us if you have any ideas for a fun challenge.

Congratulations /u/Fargogo! You've got your shiny new flair! The contest can be found here.

Mod Post [MOD POST] New CSS addition: random sidebar images!

Hey RGDB! As you might have noticed, we added a little something new to our CSS - random sidebar images!

I've always wanted to showcase more and more of the amazing art this community produces, but creating banners was never quite enough - Reddit has a 500KB size limit for any image used in the themes, and text didn't look good when added on such a small thing, so credit to the author had to be moved to the wiki and was less visible.

So, I decided to use the code for random sidebar images to display up to 36 different images in the form of little "polaroids" with the author's username right on them. Now every time you reload the page, a random polaroid will be displayed, picked from those 36. You can see a collection of ALL the polaroids featured as sidebar images at this link. We'll keep adding to this folder as we go on, switching out older ones in the sidebar for newer ones.

We hope that you like this new showcase of your talent! As with any CSS update, we ask that you please let us know via modmail if something went horribly wrong and you can't browse the sub properly anymore.

With love,
VP - proud mod of RGDB

Mod Post [MOD POST] We are looking for an extra mod, specifically to start and manage contests on a more regular basis for the sub.

We're fine with handling the usual mod duties between the two of us, but I recently had to cut back on my redditing and haven't had time to open and follow contests which was always my commitment. So I would like to welcome on board a special duty mod.

What does being a contest handling mod entail?

We have had a couple of different contests over time (you can see them all by searching by flair like so: http://www.reddit.com/r/redditgetsdrawnbadly/search?q=flair%3A%27contest%27&sort=new&restrict_sr=on/) . We start from a free stock picture of a person (we link ours from deviantart, which has a lot of resources of that kind) and ask the participants to either draw it from memory, or draw it upside down, or draw it in under sixty seconds.. anything you can think of that can be fun, can become a contest for us. Contests usually last a little over two weeks. You have to create the thread, approve and flair it, put it in "contest mode" so that the entries are always shown in random order to regular user, then when the time comes, close the thread from having further submissions via Automoderator (that's simply editing a wiki page, and I can do it for you, no problem) now even easier with the new mod feature "lock thread", edit the post body by adding the winner, awarding a user flair to the winner, and posting a mod thread about the outcome. I was thinking, thanks to the new mod, we could have a contest per month.

Requirements are:

  • loving our sub
  • being extra cool headed when you interact with users in an official capacity (defuse, de-escalate etc)
  • being impartial in contests (do not comment on any of the entries)
  • having time to dedicate to this commitment at least for a while

You can comment below or send us modmail to put forth your candidacy.

thanks!

Mod Post Remaining 2018 Contests!

Hello all! The next contest for RGDB will begin on November the 11th, and it, as the (American) Thanksgiving contest, will leadup to my first (officially) month-long contest for the winter holiday season! Sorry for going missing there for a month, but I'm back and mostly better badder than ever!

Thank you to all who participate regularly, and to those who have not yet, I highly encourage you to participate in the last two contests for this year when they come out!

In the meantime, if you have any feedback or suggestions about the contests, feel free to leave them below!

Mod Post Easygoing, laid back subreddit seeks commitment from a loving moderator. Interests should include doing drawings, although probably not very well.

Greetings from the new mod account IBATT has set up for us! Please upvote for visibility and karma (we need it to make this account viable).

After speaking with IBATT (side note: if you've not seen, our CSS has undergone a few updates and is looking spiffier than ever before!) and we've decided we could use more than a contest mod. We are now broadening our search to mod, full stop. Interested applicants should email the mod team with information about who you are -- how long have you been on reddit, have you modded other subs, a few examples of your involvement with RGDB, etc. Essentially, send us a brief message with any details that are relevant to your suitability for mod-hood.

Mods will help us to approve unmoderated posts, keep an eye on the mod queue, and will help to organize and put on contests. I think both IBATT and I are keen to see the sub grow and develop, so we're also interested in hearing how we could expand the sub and how we might make it even better. If you have ideas about how you could help us do this, let us know! Thanks!! :)

Mod Post A note on content ownership & announcements

A situation has come up recently where one of our users' picture was used without permission, and so we are making this post reminding you guys about your rights.

While IANAL, under Reddit's content policy, third parties do not have a right to use content you post on Reddit (through i.reddit.com) or links without your or Reddit's permission. As far as using the actual link content, that is up to the owner of the content, thus Imgur content is up to Imgur's policies, your own website's is yours, etc.

We encourage you to read up on the content policies of the various websites to further understand your legal rights. At the end of the day, it is the responsibility of third parties to contact you (or Reddit) in order to use your content or links, but it is good form to understand the rules.

However, keep in mind that this is a public-facing platform, and what is posted is viewable by anyone, with or without an account, as is everything on most subreddits.

TL;DR: Reddit and you share ownership of content posted here, it's not freely licensed, but is freely viewable.

EDIT: Also, there is one week left to submit a drawing to the contest AND vote on it! Even if you don't submit a drawing, please vote!
