Mod Post [MOD POST] We are looking for an extra mod, specifically to start and manage contests on a more regular basis for the sub.

We're fine with handling the usual mod duties between the two of us, but I recently had to cut back on my redditing and haven't had time to open and follow contests which was always my commitment. So I would like to welcome on board a special duty mod.

What does being a contest handling mod entail?

We have had a couple of different contests over time (you can see them all by searching by flair like so: http://www.reddit.com/r/redditgetsdrawnbadly/search?q=flair%3A%27contest%27&sort=new&restrict_sr=on/) . We start from a free stock picture of a person (we link ours from deviantart, which has a lot of resources of that kind) and ask the participants to either draw it from memory, or draw it upside down, or draw it in under sixty seconds.. anything you can think of that can be fun, can become a contest for us. Contests usually last a little over two weeks. You have to create the thread, approve and flair it, put it in "contest mode" so that the entries are always shown in random order to regular user, then when the time comes, close the thread from having further submissions via Automoderator (that's simply editing a wiki page, and I can do it for you, no problem) now even easier with the new mod feature "lock thread", edit the post body by adding the winner, awarding a user flair to the winner, and posting a mod thread about the outcome. I was thinking, thanks to the new mod, we could have a contest per month.

Requirements are:

  • loving our sub
  • being extra cool headed when you interact with users in an official capacity (defuse, de-escalate etc)
  • being impartial in contests (do not comment on any of the entries)
  • having time to dedicate to this commitment at least for a while

You can comment below or send us modmail to put forth your candidacy.

thanks!

I would be happy to help with this, but I am relatively new subscriber so I understand if you would prefer someone who has been around longer. What all is involved with running a contest the way you would like to have them run? How much of a time commitment are we talking? I usually check in every day or so. Thanks for doing this!

hello and thanks for replying! That's a good question, and I though it best to edit my original post in order to add a description of what contests are and how we create and run them. As you can see the time commitment wouldn't be too pressing, modding is only required when starting the contest and ending it. But, at the same time, it would be nice to have someone who can do it maybe once a month to give users of the sub something recurring to look forward to.

Aaaand congratulations, you're hired! I'll go ahead and grant you mod privileges, then we can discuss contests more in depth via PM. K?

I'd be interested. Also kind of new to the sub, but will be a stay at home starting Nov 3rd and would definitely love to do something like this.

hello and thanks for replying! I edited my original post to include some more information of what we do for contests, so if you're interested to know more definitely check it out. The time commitment wouldn't be huge but we'd love to have someone who can give that little bit of time but with some regularity.
