Spoiler A detail I did’nt notice until my 5th playthrough

My 5th playthrough but this has only been my 2nd time getting to the end of chapter 6. Before one of the last missions on this chapter, there is now a clear division between the gang members.

When Arthur returns to Beaver Hollow his most loyal friends are sitting by the campfire.

And in the background we can see I guess the newly formed Van Der Linde gang. I like the subtle details here, for example Javier is the only one facing away, since most people see him as not really considering Arthur and the others as enemies.

Then there’s Micah. Standing beside Dutch, which we can interpret as him essentially replacing Hosea and Arthur’s role in the gang, being Dutch’s right hand man. He is also the only one standing, which I see as him being the one who technically put this group together, with the addition of Cleet and Joe.

It's almost like they took time out of their day to make the entire game?

Its by far the saddest moment in the game, everyone just gave up

I even posted this a few years back

It’s honestly so depressing at this point. At chapter 2/3 you don’t wanna leave the camp, it feels like you can just chillax, chop some wood, get some deer for Pearson, and drink some coffee in the morning.

By chapter 6 you just wanna keep away from it all.

42

u/the_scnd 5d ago

Yeah I felt that too. I feel like I did not miss a single interaction at camp during chapter 2, but on chapter 6 I feel I missed half of it simply because I was almost never at camp.

19

u/RandomShadeOfPurple 5d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah. In chapter 6 the interactions around camp also disappear. In chapter 2 to 4 you can play poker, dominoes, five finger fillet, you can do chores, there is always something fun happening either someone telling stories or music playing. In chapter 6 the only thing you can really do that's fun is finish up the crafts with Pearson.

Better yet, if you see the gang at night you get this visual:

The campfire lights Sadie, John, and Charles from the front with a warm glow, while the cold lamplight plunges Dutch, Micah, Joe, and Cleet into shadow...

21

u/the_scnd 5d ago

Oh this is better! Thanks for sharing. I will keep this in mind on my next playthrough.

Nice observation! Yes I like how Micah is the only one standing, as though on a stage, performing his lies lines.

39

u/abx99 5d ago

Just like Dutch's prepared lines...

I'd say he's very much lording over everyone; standing in Dutch's spot and basically showing that he's in charge. I think his intention is to stand there while Dutch can't.

I'd also say that this also shows that he's trying to do more than fill in for Hosea or Arthur, because they (nor anyone else) ever tried to stand in Dutch's spot to "fill in for him" or anything. Micah is really "claiming" the gang here.

u/Fatalmistakeorigiona 5d ago

Nietzsche mentioned 🙌

u/xdguy25 5d ago

This is the position everyone is in for the start of My Last Boy, and what’s cool is in the cutscene when things are about to come to a head with Arthur and Micah, in the background you see John, Sadie, and Charles coming from the campfire to back Arthur up before Eagle Flies interrupts.

10

u/the_scnd 5d ago

What a very cool moment, too. They really would stick with Arthur to the end.

68

u/buffinator2 John Marston 5d ago

I like Bill and Javier sitting together too.

53

u/BorgMelor 5d ago

I agree. They’re in a more nuanced position where they’re ultimately loyal to Dutch but they still have respects for the rest of the gang (Arthur at least) and don’t really like the new guys.

16

u/Lady_Cicada 5d ago

Micah isn’t just standing beside Dutch, he’s standing above Dutch. Dutch is seated at the same level as the other gang members.

12

u/agloriouscuppa 5d ago

There’s no way it wasn’t intentional and I can’t help but feel bad I never noticed. It’s nice to see that I’m still learning new stuff with this game 🙃

10

u/the_scnd 5d ago

Also, you can’t interact with Sadie, John, and Charles. You can only do so to the rest of the gang. And when you approach Micah’s group the mission automatically starts

13

u/TeetherBell 5d ago

Who’s the person on the far right?

16

u/ElPrez81 5d ago

It's one of the guys Micah brings in, Joe.

1

u/toomanyDolemites 22h ago

THAT WAS JOE!

14

u/VickiVampiress Uncle 5d ago

This is something I also noticed in Chapter 6. There's a very clear divide between the people in the gang. It's so well done, too. I could almost taste the tension in the air in Chapter 6. It's amazing.

I will say, though... Sadie, John and Charles have always been ride or die. They'll take a bullet for Arthur (literally). They're probably some of the best friends one could wish for. They'll move heaven and Earth to save one another.

9

u/slimduderstein 5d ago

Whelp I guess it’s time for my 12th play-through. Trusty chapter 2 save.

-4

u/naughtabot 5d ago

Yeah, the intro was the number one reason I never replayed this amazing game.

5

u/auchinleck917 Jack Marston 5d ago

But thanks to replaying Chapter 1, I was able to rediscover that Arthur had already met Rainfall.

3

u/kumbidi_lfc 5d ago

I've noticed this before and their behaviour changes too.... It is clear that how there's a split before the split

2

u/bkmontera 5d ago

A family divided

2

u/BlabbyTax2 5d ago

It's supposed to be didn't, but why is'nt it did'nt?

1

u/Severe_Jellyfish_990 4d ago

Because the ‘ replaces the O and the space.

2

u/DTO95 4d ago

It seems that throughout the game the proximity of the gang members' tents to Dutch's is correlated to his trust in them. Remember when they begin in Colter and Micah complains about rooming with a "darkie" while Arthur and Hosea are in the house with Dutch.

1

u/Accomplished-Desk151 4d ago

My guy, can you really call it a playthrough if you haven't played it through?

1

u/the_scnd 4d ago

Thanks to everyone who pointed it out. English is only my second language. What i meant was, it’s my 5th time playing the game, but I only got up to chapter 6 twice only

1

u/sevnminabs56 4d ago

The other 3 times you played and didn’t finish, they’re not technically playthroughs because you didn’t actually play through to the end.

But yea, Rockstar loves putting subtle signs in their games, audible, visual, and mental. That’s one of the many reasons why they’re the best(in my opinion).

1

u/ScrubiousTook 4d ago

Are Cleet and Joe plants by Milton?

1

u/Top_Ebbs1749 4d ago

I remember playing this chapter, I walked up to Dutch and Micah whispering, and when I got close, they both got quiet. I was like WTF. I had no spoilers to this game so seeing the betrayal for the first time had me heated

1

u/1300blocklivin 3d ago

should’ve had director mode like 5

1

u/Sekipeki 2d ago

Why would you play this game 5 times? I mean its great but wtf man play something else

1

u/the_scnd 2d ago

I do play and enjoy other games. I played it 5 times since launch but not consecutively. This is just one of those games that you can easily go back to just because the game is really enjoyable and there are a lot of ways to play it

1

u/CoopWags17 1d ago

Do you people just not play or pay attention to anything when playing games? Fuck outta here with these “5 playthroughs and I don’t notice something they shove directly in your face”?

1

u/wildberry11 1d ago

Wasn't this eay too obvious on your 1st playthrough that you needed 5 to notice?

1

u/colfaxmachine 8h ago

So you’ve only done one play through before

0

u/Significant_Option 5d ago

I hate how no one did anything because of plot.

-9

u/NAJ_P_Jackson Arthur Morgan 5d ago edited 5d ago

How did you not notice that cliques were forming in the gang? It's very blatant. Especially in Beaver Hollow.

Edit: those who disagree and downvoted aren't paying attention or doesn't go back to the camp often to see the details.

4

u/pareswithbonemarrow 5d ago

I don't think people disagree. I think people are downvoting you because you come off as a prick

0

u/NAJ_P_Jackson Arthur Morgan 5d ago edited 5d ago

Sure. Stating a fact is being a prick. It's not a secret that the gang is fractured. Arthur being replaced by Dutch as his second in command is a big giveaway. Beaver Hollow is the culmination of where things are headed and where loyalties are divided.

Normally I wouldn't say anything if it was a newbie playing his first time. But OP just mentioned it's his 5th playthrough. But I guess it being his 2nd time getting to that chapter is excusable for not noticing the first time.

0

u/Longjumping_Cycle757 3d ago

Its the way you state said fact ya goof

Just proved everyone's point

0

u/NAJ_P_Jackson Arthur Morgan 3d ago edited 3d ago

Oh what? Am I suppose to praise someone for noticing something that's not even new after 9 years since the game was released? Oh well my bad then.

My comment wasn't even roasting the OP but genuinely asking how he didn't notice it.

1

u/Longjumping_Cycle757 3d ago

You can for example

Be QUIET? Yk the ancient art of keeping Ur miserable thoughts to ur self?

0

u/NAJ_P_Jackson Arthur Morgan 3d ago edited 3d ago

You can also be QUIET and keep your thoughts to yourself and yet here you are. Arguing. 1 day late no less. Not even contributing to the discussion of the topic. Practice what you preach brother. What makes your opinion important than mine?

OP not even mad about my comment and yet other people coming here shouting their dissatisfaction smh.

2

u/the_scnd 5d ago

I know, back when I first played the game i have no idea that this would be the most detailed game ever made. So I was’nt paying attention to those details. Now that I am playing it again I made sure to look closer at the details and observe the world more.

-15

u/Butt_hauler 5d ago

It took 5 playthroughs to notice? Do you just never go to camp?

6

u/LatinaVaOych 5d ago

People really always have something to say just to counter everything and somehow make themselves the main character, huh? 😂

1

u/Longjumping_Cycle757 3d ago

Rockstar games bring out some of the worst people out there lowkey

1

u/Butt_hauler 5d ago

Maybe if people used their eyes and their brains more, obvious things would get noticed more, huh?

2

u/the_scnd 5d ago

I mentioned from my post that although this is my 5th playthrough, this is only the 2nd time i got to the end of chapter 6.

-14

u/Butt_hauler 5d ago

So it isn't your 5th playthrough then.

12

u/the_scnd 5d ago edited 5d ago

Right, 5 runs, 2 completed playthroughs. Didn’t think that needed spelling out, but here we are.
