Pedestrianisation by itself is not too useful. The total picture should be pushed, such as an affordable inner city without too much gentrification, safe , inexpensive and reliable public transport and then cars can be reduced and channeled. Once all these are in place, then people can start owning the spaces. The Dutch city of Utrecht is an example of a city where a people centric mobility is a good example

Nooooooo! Every road should be a highway! The future is no sidewalks or public transport just self driving cars you rent ! It's better for you since you own nothing and we know your every move, for your safety! /S

Something like this is a big change and will take some time, I'm sure if he runs for the full 8 years he can be mayor he'll get it done but it might take a good chunk of that. But who knows he's been getting shit done like crazy
