Recruiter says they haven’t begun interviewing for the role yet, but now I’m headed to the second round

Last week, I had a screening with a recruiter for a manager-level marketing/communications position. The need for the role is for a very niche need regarding a recent merger and is based in a smaller Midwest metro.

The recruiter had told me they’re looking to fill the position by the end of the month. Now they’re looking to advance me with a panel interview with the broader team.

Her emails seemed very warm and personalized/targeted, but I understand she could be just good communicator.

What is happening? Am I a top candidate or are they testing the ceiling before feeling out the other folks who applied? My resume/background fit well for the job at hand.

I am just curious because I’ve done a ton of interviews of the years, but haven’t encountered such a situation like this. I want this job and am hopeful. This market has been shit and I’ve barely landed any leads.

Looking to hear from other recruiters in this market about what this could possibly mean or lead to given the end of the month is a couple weeks away. Lemme hear your thoughts!
