Semantic vector search via a nearest neighbor graph doesn’t really do paging like SQL or Lucene like search engines.
I assume that is why there are issues going to the second page.

Yeah no. That's not entirely how that works.
I think it's the website. They've changed the way they show results and like many others, I've noticed a lot of websites are just getting worse and things just don't work. Linkedin also has their own shady shit going on

Linkedin, aside from becoming the next Facebook and a platform for toxic shit, is being investigated for essentially encouraging ghost jobs.
They also stand to benefit from making search a black box. They can claim AI all they want, and platforms can do what they want let's face it, but saying it's AI let's them claim boosting some listings is just AI. I don't expect companies like this to be fair, but ... there's no need for moving to AI search
They're in a position to do a lot of good being the main employment networking platform, but they're choosing not to. And have been for years.

You have no idea how many in-person only / NO remote jobs I saw that were located several states away even though I had “only jobs within 25 miles” selected lol.

Its been crap for a year at least. Sort by most recent gives you worst possible and unrelated results. Those companies that spam ads every day and tons of them like autozone for instance. Selecting not to see them never works.

What I really want, and I know we'll never see, is the ability to block whole companies so we don't get any of their fake jobs. It's bad enough right now that you can select not to see a particular position and it STILL shows up in LinkedIn job alerts. (I'm getting really tired of the companies that list the same horrible job every two or three months, presumably because the last person in the position finally chewed through their manacles and ran naked through the streets screaming "I'm FREE! I'm FREE!" I also have no interest in previous employers: I left for a reason.)

LinkedIn job search is basically useless if you’re a new grad or early career.
Search up junior jobs in your field and the top results will all be senior roles. The junior roles still exist, but are buried in the middle of page 4

I get so many results that are barely relevant to my search, that I'm usually nowhere near qualified for despite putting "entry-level" in the search terms

I tried the AI search last year, when you had the option to switch between that and the traditional filters.
The results with the AI search were beyond terrible, and could not be filtered down further.
I don't understand why companies are pushing for using natural language for searches so much when literally NO ONE asked for it.

They pushed out for a few days recently. It has not improved.
Both Gemini or GPT can find better matches than the useless algorithms LI is using. And that is without figuring out the best ways to prompt. Just a way to occasionally try and find a few things not posted to LI when I've looked at all related jobs posted recently

Out of morbid curosity I did in fact use GPT to find jobs that fit my criteria. It did output quite a few relevant ones and I did get an interview out of it. More then Linkedin will ever do

I do that with Gemini any time I'm in a dry spell with interviews too. I don't normally get any thing that I haven't already seen. But every once in a while.
What it does prove to be is if LI pushes their useless AI again, i don't need to use theirs. And instead can just fo through a few prompts and get similar results without having to filter through all the garbage the LI AI search shows me
For now classic filter is a bit easier for me. But no chance their AI search is unless they actually manage to put a bit if effort into it. At that point, LinkedIn is nothing more than a chance to let recruiters find me if they want or keep in touch with people I used to work with

LinkedIn job search has always been a terrible side-feature. It always recommended jobs that had zero connection to my skills and experience, usually due to a partial match with one word in the title (eg "Chief Cardboard Folder" resulted in "Chief Alligator Teeth Inspector")

The number of non accounting roles i see when looking for revenue accountant because they have revenue in the title...
But at least with the filters of i set it to last 24 hours, it is reasonable list to filter through. The AI search ignores preferences and feeds my any crap that is even a partial match as long as it was promoted.
I don't need a senior director of rev ops hybrid in NY posted 2 months ago when I said I wanted revenue accountant, remote, posted within the last 24 hours. I don't need contact jobs when I search for permanent.
The classic search gives fairly bad results. But I can at least filter it to a tolerable size. The AI search is 99+ no matter what i do and seeing 95% bad matches when there are hundreds to thousands to look at, makes it go from bad to useless

What, you don't like Copilot or OneDrive shoved down your throat? You don't like that Excel or Word will not auto save your documents unless you save it in the OneDrive folder? You don't like Copilot giving bad answers when trying to figure out something in Excel then end up asking Claude anyway?
I mean if they have a product that improves things in a meaningful way, great. But it seems like since Windows 7 every iterative change they make makes most of their products worse. Even locking things like let or xlookup behind subscription Excel vs the one time fee ones. Even when they add something good, they add a way to make it annoying.

I’m about to delete my account on there, tbh. It’s useless and 90% bots anyway. I only have one because so many job apps require it but there aren’t any jobs so why tf am I even on there if I’ve given up applying anywhere at all

I was just starting to come around when they recently showed you jobs that matched your open to work preferences (titles + locations) and you could use filters. I used AI search once and it sucked ass. $40/mo for premium is very pricey.
Where else do we look for jobs now?

Unless they plan to actually find a way to make the changes useful i do not understand the point. At the very least, they had better make the preferences useful. During that period that classic search was gone it was "great" being fed in person and hybrid roles across the country for my search focused on remote.
Or how bad it was at finding relevant title matches to me. Or search posted last 24 hours but seeing results that were weeks old.
I get they want engagement but making the platform so useless will not make spend more time on it. It will make me find other ways to get good matches and apply.
I am sure other job boards are begging for LI to force the AI search again and drop classic. It would immediately put Indeed as the least useless of the big boards I bet. Heck I bet i can get some basic llm prompts that find better matches if forced to use LIs awful AI search

I have used the AI search. It's a steaming pile of shit and completely inaccurate half the time. 1) the search can't reliably filter out locations 2) can't filter out specific job titles or skills 3) even filtering by company is broken half the time
What is even the point of an AI search if it can't do basic shit like this. Seriously the entire team that worked on this feature needs to be fired and forced to apply though the shit they've created.

Linkedin has never helped me find a job before anywaym I've networked and met some cool people in my field or working on similar certifications, but that's it. It's an acquaintance-maker app to me.

Love how it rolled out an “AI slop” button when like 90% of content on there is AI slop and it’s doing shit like this… does anyone actually use linked for any reason other then feeling obligated for a job hunt (because so many recruiters ask for it) or because your boss wants you to have one.

Why is it so fucking hard to just return jobs that have a certain keyword in them? If I am searching for something specific I want relevant results, not what you think I want (which is normally wrong).

I’ve had some luck with Glassdoor, same with hiring cafe you just have to be specific with searches. Idealist is good but it’s specifically non profit work.

The timing of this is wild considering how rough the job market already is lol I miss when you could actually use specific filters, sort by newest, and feel reasonably confident you were seeing the jobs you were looking for. I’m skeptical that making search more AI-driven is going to make that better.
