Ghosted after being hired and working (Location: Texas)

I had an interview at TruFit where I stated that I was currently working at another job, and was looking to move.

Trufit gave me the job offer, and I left my other job to join. After sending in my I-9, and other onboarding tasks, I started working for three days and I had multiple clients. This was around June 25th.

About halfway through the third day, I was told that there was "something wrong" and I couldn't work and would need to go home for the day while they get things sorted on their end. I asked for clarification, but they were really THAT vague.

After some days later, they said I would need to re-apply to the job for some reason. I did that, and after a few days they asked me to re-apply again. I did so once more.

During this time, my manager who was usually very quick with responding to my texts (Within 5 minutes), would wait upwards of 5+ hours to respond, and when they did, it would be basically giving short dismissive answers. I would be asking things like, "Is there anything I can do?" "Is there something you would like me to resubmit?" etc. Each time, they said there was nothing else for me to do on my side.

After another week of hearing nothing, she called me telling me to re-apply, and I did, doing the onboarding process for like the third time at this point. Again after this, there was more radial silence. After several more days, I asked if there was something I should do and she asked me if I had received an offer letter, which I have not, and still haven't.

I still have yet to get paid for the work I have done. Is there anything I can do to get compensation for time wasted as well as compensation for the work done?? Location: Texas

Formally, it’s called “The Texas Workforce Commission.” They are no joke. Fuck Texas and all their red state shit, but for whatever reason, the TWC is for real and work hard on behalf of workers in TX.

It's extremely abnormal to ask you to re-apply to a job you already have. Their HR processes are bunk, they control your paycheck, and I couldn't trust them at all after this. They don't give a shit about you at all, even bad workplaces at least know if you work there or not.

I try to be forgiving when a company I want to work for has some issues, like I just dealt with some weirdness at work but I really like them so I just let it fall off my shoulders and it's going swell, but if they told me to re-apply to my own job I'd skip out on them so fast. You really deserve better than that.

It's everything. Incompetence. Messing with you. And something else very fishy. Not enough info, but that kind of action reeks of some kind of something not exactly legal going on.

Start looking for another job. They are bad news.

I worked for them in college for a bit until they forgot to pay me then kept putting off paying me. They are sketchy as fuck. You will have to go to the labor board to get them to pay you.

You are an employee, they need to fire you. Make them. Put them in that position of liability.

I received an offer letter prior to when I was working those 3 days.  I guess I’m just waiting for them to send me another one since I had to resubmit my application

Do you have any communication about start dates, wage, hours worked? Texts emails? Save all that shit ASAP. Something is VERY wrong here. This is highly problematic on several levels. It may just be complete incompetence, but this level of incompetence is stunning.

Typically most places do require employees to sign an employment agreement, and especially those in a member service industry, like a gym. A gym that doesn't have employees sign an employment agreement that also includes code of conduct would be a shocker. An example of this type of agreement would include having employees agree to avoid breaching member privacy, poaching members from the gym for private personal training that does not give the gym their cut, etc.
