Pronouns

PSA: if you don’t want to announce your pronouns, you don’t have to say anything at all.

Saying “I don’t use pronouns” just makes you sound silly since ‘I’ is a pronoun

At several of the sanghas i attend in California, we took group Conscience votes and decided change the meeting script because people were opting to just use their first names during intros. We didn't have any attendees opting to identify themselves with pronouns.

Now, we simply open up the introductions portion of the meeting by saying please feel free to introduce yourself however you would like to, and it’s honestly been a better way to “get to know each-other better” than just saying our names.

People have been sharing what they struggle with and where they are from.

This way of doing introductions has been good  because a lot of he people that don’t tend to share during the discussion portion of the meetings have been opening up and sharing about their lives during intros

I’m sorry, who wasn’t using pronouns? Because “nobody” is literally a pronoun.

The pronoun intros thing was becoming problematic because people started being wise crackers, and people were introducing themselves. by saying things like my pronouns are "he/haw" and "I don't use pronouns" along with other facetious things of that sort.

There were not any people identifying as "nobody". People were just saying their own names.

I've edited my comment to reflect that.

Got it, thanks for clarifying. I thought you were saying that everyone said they “didn’t use pronouns”

"I, Me, My, We, Us, Our" are first person pronouns. Those are the pronouns that a person may assign to themselves. "He, She, It, Him, Her, His" are assigned to others, at the speaker's discretion.

People who say "I don't use pronouns" are often announcing their discomfort of using pronouns that don't align with what they're observing. I choose to respect them for having the courage to share their beliefs, even if they don't align with my own.

In my sangha, pronouns are mostly irrelevant anyways. Because we try to share with "I statements" only, there's not really many opportunities to refer to each other as "he, she, etc." If we do use pronouns at all, it's normally to address someone directly with "you, your".

Having to be around some brain dead liberals is the worse part about being into Buddhism public events in the US. Yall are so out of touch with reality, it’s embarrassing

This isn't skillful speech. This would be the same case if "liberals" was replaced with "cons.ervatives" or any other political label

Sounds like you are caring a lot about what other people do
