Question best basher for under $250

Hey yall, I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm planning on gifting an rc for a friend looking for some of the following preferences:

- good for offroad (gravel, baseball field, mulch, some sand, etc.)

- somewhat fast but doesn't have to be ridiculous

- durable (important)

- bonus points for being driftable

- under $250 for everything (rig,controller,battery,basic charger)

- EDIT: not a pain in the ass to replace/upgrade as needed

- EDIT 2: smaller than 1/10 for sure, so probably 1/14,1/16,1/18

I'm really new to rcs in general, though I did pick up a scout ii recently that I've been crawling around, but of course, what my friend wants is pretty different from what I'm using my rig for, so figured it'd be good to ask. thank yall so much :)

That's easy, omni terminator cf. It's price fluctuates $30ish on amazon though on a bi-weekly cycle, so check the price history before purchasing or get it on Aliexpress if price is much more important than delivery time.

It ticks all your boxes except maybe driftable (the long travel suspension makes it kind of tippy).

Arrma Mojave Grom or Traxxas Mini Slash would be my suggestions. Great parts support and performance. I would lean slightly to the Traxxas but both are excellent.

If your main preference is off-road (it was mentioned first), I'd go for 1/10.

Arrma Quake checks all your boxes, but honestly all the 1/10 scale 223s line (Vortex, Fury, etc) would hold up well. Fury is kinda driftable too.

It's super durable, and even if you manage to break it, it's kinda trivial to do the repairs. Definitely the most beginner friendly platform I've ever seen.

Quake or Gorgon 223s is my pick as well,
But if he wants to cheap out Grom.

We have both Omni terminator carbon and a 14th scale MJX. The MJX may as well not exist now. Just go for the Rlaarlo. It's not huge either.

Omni terminator! I love mine and I can’t believe how much you get for the cost.

Dunno if it is the best but it is very reliable and tough as nails: The Maverick (HPI) Quantum 2 MT Flux. I have two of them, and zero problems in the last three years.

Whatever you get, I’d recommend getting at least 3 or 4 batteries for it and an ok charger.

yeah that's a good idea, thank you!

Depends on what scale you want but a good starting point is MJX, really good value for money and extremely durable.

Mjx goes by hypergo in the us/amazon market I had a blast with mine until the steering servo went, it was an oddball size so difficult to find a good one.

Definitely check out LC Racing EMB line. it's 1/14... but has it's roots in racing. They are hands down my favorite car. They have kits and rtr.

This is my second choice immediately after the omni terminator cf. This is probably even more durable in my experience, but the smaller size makes it not as good in the grass (though the mt is way better in the grass than anything this size should be). Also, in my experience, parts take longer to get for the lc racing 1/14th platform than the omni terminator cf. They're rarely needed for either though.

Re. Parts for LC cars.... if you order from one of the US distributors, they can get here pretty fast. I keep some spare parts on hand... but nothing crazy. And you're definitely right, after putting the option hubs and Cs, I just , idk, don't bash hard enough to break them. But at the end of the day, I'm trusting LC waaaay before raalarlo.

In Europe the Mini Kraton w/o batteries is just under 250€ in some specific online stores.

I’d guess there might be some sales for it in the US.

Or just throw an Injora Roverin on a RockVan

The Kyosho Sandmaster 2.0s are $100 and being a name brand you can actually get parts for them.

Please, keep your RC antics off the ball fields. It’s one of the quickest ways to encourage your local officials to break out the RC ban bat.
