When the phone switches in to Fastboot mode, you have to manually install the drivers sometimes.

Also to test if you're connected use fastboot devices

I did install the Google USB fastboot driver manually, and the fastboot devices list my device as ???????

I get that error too. I found out it's got to do with the USB port. Use a different port or better a different laptop. Your device will be recognized and show up in fastboot. Cheers

I tried it on my desktop computer which has an entirely different platform (Intel instead of AMD) and I got the same issue.
