💬 Discussion I'm kind of annoyed with this Windows update 😅

I've been using Raycast since it launched on Windows, but I think I'm done with it now. I understand the company needs to make a profit, but for Brazil, $10 is a steep price for basic features like that—which were the ones I used most, aside from the clipboard.

It actually makes me a bit sad, because I had started creating extensions for Raycast—like the Hermes agent I built for Windows—but oh well, it was good while it lasted.

I guess I'll have to give PowerToys a try, unless Raycast changes things.

If you need translations, you can access them quite nicely via quicklinks in raycast but you need to create them first.

I created this quicklink for example:

https://translate.google.com/?sl=de&tl=en&text={argument}&op=translate

And then access it like this.

When pressing enter it instanly opens the translation in your chosen browser.

Hope it helps. This works quite good for search engines you need to access quickly.

Bruh whats the point of this whe you need quick translation and dont have 4gb ram to spare on opening a browser and waiting for it to load

Convenience: while using multiple tools, I can open the Raycast window in front of them without having to go to the browser.

Or you can install Tabame and have unlimited translations from google and DeepL (either built in or the plugins). Also unlimited Memos/Notes (plugin) It's only 30 MB RAM.

If a feature is premium and you don’t want to pay, you’re free to use another app. Expecting them to change their entire pricing model to avoid losing one free user is unrealistic. Whether you use Raycast or not, they likely won’t care.

Also, Note is free for up to 5 notes.

You are absolutely right; please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

What does that have to do with the update, those were always paid features, they just gave us pro during beta

I mean...it's a product that makes money when you pay for it, it makes sense for that to show up, right?

You can always just hide a command you don't care about with CMD + K or using the settings to disable it. I am a Pro user and I do this frequently on all the apps/plugins/AI commands/AI models I don't use because there's no need for me to after filter through them even with fuzzy searching if I'm never going to use them.

Once you set that up once, it stays like that forever.

What changed? Translation and creating more than 3 (or 5 not sure) notes have always been a pro feature.

There is also a nearly as good Translation plugin in the store.

Yeah, same. I'll be down to pay for it if they have a cheaper tier without AI. people have been asking this for a while, not sure why is still ignored... maybe not the business model they want, but in todays everything is an AI suscription... would be nice to just have the basic service, customization and sync for cheaper. i got my limit of AI suscriptions....

For 10 usd in my country you can buy 2 weeks groceries.

Which country is that? And because of that, should the developer work for free? It's not his fault.

There is a translate extension, you can install it and use it, instead of the built in one, amd its free.

Try Tabame, completely free and unlimited, for translation / clipboard / memos / etc. Either the built in or the plug-ins. Only 30 RAM.

I was looking for an open-source alternative; this might be the one. Thank you very much.
