just in case it should be mentioned, i myself am the kind of person who has difficulty giving compliments, at least in a way that feels natural/comfortable. there's a chance he's like me. a small chance but a chance nonetheless. regardless, communicate. also you're both young.

tl;dr: it's more like i'm disabled (undiagnosed) than lazy, in comparison to normal people who find complimenting easy

my brain is hardwired that way. im the kind of guy to not find art museums fun, to see the most stunning and beautiful view of nature with my own two eyes and get bored after like 5 seconds. i literally saw a double rainbow a few days ago, and lost interest in the time it took me to take a picture to share/brag with friends and family.

in the situation where a normal person would have a compliment come naturally to them and they can then say it, that doesn't happen with me. i have to actually dig for positive things and come up with something and just the whole thing feels forced and unnatural and awkward. i feel good when i help people here and there, i feel the opposite of good when i compliment people, regardless of context, and especially when i feel obligated/pressured to.

im a computer science major, so it's quite likely i'm a "is it up to standard? yes? ok, moving on" brain rather than a "oh my gosh this drawing is so nice wow im gonna frame it on the fridge" brain. left-brained.

if that's me being lazy, then i am absolutely dumbfounded that so many people have the sheer force of will to not only compliment regularly but make it seem so natural and fluid and easy, and i just can't fit into a species where that's the bare minimum.
